Problems with nVidia DVD navigator (nVidia PureVideo) (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I read around here somewhere that default MPEG2 codecs for DVDs sucked and that the "DVD Navigator" has a few bugs here and there, so, I deicded to take nVidia PureVideo for a spin and installed it. I configured everything in MediaPortal to use the "nVidia DVD Navigator", "nVidia Video Decoder" and "nVidia Audio Decoder".

Well, DVDs won't play at all... I pinpointed the problem to be in the the "nVidia DVD Navigator" because when I change only the navigator back to "DVD Navigator", I can play DVDs just fine.

Why can't I use the "nVidia DVD Navigator"?

Well the first thing that springs to mind, its not been updated since 2006, how many changes has Windows undergone in that time ;)
I think they paased the mantle over to cyberlink to keep dxva going with nvidia hardware, even purevisionHD is a mystery to most (just means they have added dxva2 to their driver support) so not a codec just a name.

You're saying nVidia PureVideo is old and the last released version was in '06? I didn't know that...

I guess I should use Cyberlink's MPEG2 decoder then? Is there a version with only the things needed for MPEG2? I don't need/want to buy the whole PowerDVD thing as I want to keep MediaPortal as the main media center application.

That will still leave me with the "DVD Navigator" and that's the main reason I wanted to change to nVidia PureVideo, so I could change the DVD Navigator...

Currently only Cyberlink version 7 DVD navigator is allowed to use with MP (as version 8 has had huge issues even in GraphEdit). This will be evaluated later again to see if Cyberlink has fixed some issues.

Yes, there is. Cyberlink has a product called "PowerDVD SE for Windows XP/Vista", which despite the name doesn't include the PowerDVD application, but the MPEG2 audio/video decoder and the Dvd Navigator only. I've used the XP variant for a year now and it works with MP.

Note that I'm not sure if the version currently available on their website is based on PowerDVD 8 (see tourettes' post).

    PowerDVD SE for Windows Vista

Well, if it is indeed PDVD8, it won't work in MP as stated by tourettes and there no trial available so I can't test it either way. No matter how good their decoder might be, I'm not going to buy something without testing it first... :/
