i've just installed Media Portal as my Freecom DVB USB stick works okay with the provided software but it's cutting off every 12-15 minutes for 10-20 seconds.. i figured it was probably the processor, but thought it might be a good idea to try some other software rather than the provided TotalMedia software
before i made the effort of removing the drivers from my system and downloading the BDA drivers from freecom's website i installed the MediaPortal software. it went through the installation fine, and after about a 10 minute scan it found 68 freeview channels. "hurray" i said. and the installation finished

i then ran the software and it looked like this:

i tried changing my screen resolution and went down from 32 million colours to 16 million. i also restarted the computer.

i then downloaded some skins off the media portal site, they didnt make a big difference, the menu buttons were in slightly different places, but were still illegible and there was still no graphics or background etc...



i dont think it would make a difference if i had installed the BDA drivers.. i suspect my crappy onboard graphics card is to blame... but wondered if theres anything else it could be that might be worth trying. should i uninstall/reinstall? i've not had this problem with any other software before. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - I have the same issue and it seems that the "misery" we are sharing is the S3 built-in video controller. This confirm me the problem because I tried on the same PC but with an add-on card and it worked. I'll try a couple of things and keep you posted

yeah, i'm coming to realise the S3 on board graphics isn't very good

i downloaded the graphics drivers from some kind of drivers website, and that made a slight difference; the blue background loaded, and when in full screen mode the text was displayed properly, however it still didnt look right in a windowed mode, and took a long time to switch from the first screen to the tv page, and then it crashed.

so i gave up and downloaded PowerCinema, and that worked great straight away. PowerCinema doesnt seem as smooth as TotalMedia, but it works a lot better with my processor and memory and wont cut off for 30 seconds every 15 minutes like totalmedia. i would like to get MediaPortal working, but i dont think it's worth the effort untill i get a decent graphics card.

let me know if you do get it to work though
