Pulling my hair out getting remote to work (1 Viewer)

I am fairly new to MP and I am having massive issue with using my remote http://www.maplin.co.uk/media-centre-ir-remote-385365 . I am using Windows 7 and use the Avalon skin. I could not get all of the buttons on my remote to work using Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard so I used the keyboard input plugin. However I am trying to follow the wiki to map buttons to functions but they do not seem to work. For example I want to pause live TV when I press the pause button yet I cannot seem to do this. Am I missing something and what settings should I have for this? Please help.
Also I want to launch MP when I press the Start button but again using MediaPortal tray launcher does not work for me.

I want to get this to work so please help

Did you try HID or sceneo in the remote section, these pseudo remotes can be tough to get fully working in MP

One of my ambitions is to get a fully working list of ALL these remotes in one place (Wiki), so configuring will be a breeze, what a hope, the death of the M$ remote has caused untold grief around here.

ps. is there any brand\model on the bottom of remote.

Thanks. So it isn't necessarily something I am doing wrong then. The remote is a generic Vista MCE remote model N18HC. I already tried HID but that didn't work. I try sceneo then. What remote could I buy that would work out of the box?
