Hello,
I've installed Media Portal on an old desktop pc.
Specs:
AMD atholon XP 2700+
1 gig
Nvidia GeForce 5600 with up to date driver

TV:
Philips 28pw9520

connected with s-video cable.

When Media Portal is running, and for example playing music, I noticed a strange spot, specially on the white, brighter parts of the screen. When I turned the tv to a blue screen, I noticed a dark spot on the screen.
I was wondering what this could be and how I can solve it.

Here are some pictures:

wierd - does it just happen when you play music?
If so - that sounds like it could be sound interference or magnets from speakers.

Hello jayendra, It's not particulary happening when playing music. But it seems to be less when I turn on the television in Media Portal.
It also occurs when I'm in Windows (desktop for example). But the spot is bigger, but less intense. Sometimes there is a spot on the right as well. It has nothing to do with the speakers, that was my first thought as well.

Could it be the graphic card?

Antohter thing is, that when I turn the tv on the s-video channel, it says CVBS. Refresh rate of the videocard is 60herz.

Some magnetic device in the surrounding ? the PSU of your machine ?

Had this with my subwoofer that caused some areas of the screen to appear green.

No, the subwoofer is on the ground. And it dissapears when the blue screen is on for a while.
Sometimes it's worse than other times. It does not occurs when I'm watching "normal" tv (without MP).

yeah wierd - can't be software - can it? doubt it. But you say its fine with certain things. Maybe its the TV? and certain colour frequecies freak it out. Google it

thats TV related and nothing you can fix on your own. Cheap picture tube (Philips tubes are pretty famous for these problems) that are not made for one color fullscreen/too much bright colors, heavily magnitized or some close to death capacitor/platines.

Normal TV is not visibly affected cause it contains much darker/moving colors.

Hi ,this is a hardware problem of the TV. I also have a Philips CRT TV and it behaves similar. Sometimes you also see a green spot on opposite sid eof the purple spot. Also, on certain TV programs that you watch (without MP) you may see this. Maybe the TV is under warranty and you can get it fixed for free.

Thanks for your reply. It's not under warranty anymore, I think I've to learn to live with it ;-)
I've noticed that the problem occures while watching tv as well (as you mentioned).

    cheers.
