I am a complete noob when it comes to video cards, aspect ratios and the like so Im hoping someone can help me out.

I currently have a fx gforce 5200 video card connected to a 42 plasma via s-cable. The highest res It allows on my plasma is 1024 x 768 which is 4:3.

I am wondering why i cant get 16:9. is it my video card? My card also has dvi-i so would i get better results using a dvi to hdmi cable to my plasma??

I appreciate anyone tryin to help me out with this. Thanks

DVI and HDMI are using same signal (HDMI has extra capability to have audio aswell). DVI and HDMI both produce much better picture quality that s-video can provide, so you should definately be using DVI or HDMI over s-video.

Well my video card has dvi but my plasma has hdmi so id have to get a converter. If i did this would i get higher res than 1024 x 768? Would this give me widescreen?

Sorry about asking so much questions just trying to figure stuff out.

You can actually buy cables with a DVI connector on one end, and HDMI on the other. Yes, you should be able to get a much higher resolution using a digital signal like DVI/HDMI.

To get wide screen, just pick a wide screen resolution. Typically you would pick the highest native resolution you TV supports. My TV supports Full HD 1080p, so I'm using 1920x1080.

Ok thanks i will buy a cable and give that a try. My computer video card currently only lets me choose up to 1024 x 768 so hopefully ill get a higher res with the new cable.
