Hello Everyone,
I was reading another post and the people mention that they want a "MP client" as in a client server model (I think). From want I understand of this is they want their media on a central server and to be able to access that media from MP clients! Now I sort of do that allready by having shared folders on a server and just pointing my MP's to those folders for the media files I want to use. Now there must be something more to it that they want. Can anyone tell me what that is.
Boomshanka and keep up the brilliant work :)

    Hi,

they want a shared database. :)

On a client server model, you have not only placed your videos on a server, you have also a centralized database. The clue behind that is, you can have more than one MP client, that connects to the server.

Currently the database is stored locally on the client. In that case, you have to download IMDB information on every client for instance. With a centralized database, you would download the information once for all clients. Same goes for recordings. Make a recording on one client, the other can only access the file, if you are recording to a share. But it cannot access the information stored in the DB.

    Flip.

    Hey Sambuddy,

what people want is that the TV and recording engine becomes a service, which could run on a server and stream (via IP), TV to thin clients (without TV cards).

Hope this helps explain this idea.
