Question:

I have been setting up my HTPC with MP for a couple of weeks now.
When I pause live TV, the image stays on the screen for a couple of seconds then goes black, when I restart it seems to restart at least a couple of seconds after the pause position.
Is this how it is supposed to work, or do I have a problem?

Thanks in advance for any help or useful comments.

Hmm... seems odd. Does timeshifting work normally (i.e. can you rewind live TV)?

Also, can you find out which video/audio codec you're using? Do this by going to MP Configuration -> TV.

Also, if you can, can you post a log of this - open up MP, reproduce your problem, close MP, post the contents of the mediaportal.log file here - its located in Mediaportal\log.

definately doesn't look normal - when you press pause it should just pause at the frame you pressed the key and then "unpause" like nothing happened...

do you press pause while timeshif on or off... i'm asking because that's how mp are responding when you press pause while ts is off (mp then automatically activates timeshifting and needs time to make buffer file)...

Samuel337.
My video codec is Intervideo Video Decoder,
My audio codec is Intervideo Audio Decoder.
When ts is on I have no problem rewinding live TV.

Pirlone,
You are correct, that is exactly what is happenning.
When timeshifting is on, the pause works correctly, when it is off,
it skips a couple of seconds.

But the reason I had timeshiffting off was because when it is on, it causes my video/audio to stutter.

While I was testing this last night I found something very weird.
With ts on and while I was experiencing stutter watching live TV (no pausing had been done yet), for some reason I pressed the fast forward button on my remote, there was nothing to ffd, but the stuttering stopped.

I reproduced this many times.

So can anyone explain this?
Has anyone experienced this also?
If you are having stuttering problems with ts on, could you please try this to see if you have the same result.

Thanks for your comments.

are you on some of the latest .svn or just plain .2rc4?

i remember there was probs like you describing once and ffwd was a workaround for this, but right now (with 30.04 svn) my dvb-t and dvb-s works flawlessly without stuttering while ts on...

This is expected behaviour. When TS is off, MP has to stop and restart TV to enable timeshifting (so you can pause live TV). If you want instant pause, you'll always have to have timeshifting enabled. You can enable timeshifting from My TV Home. The pause feature needs timeshifting enabled. Basically the pause button allows you to instantly enable timeshifting for TV.

Have you tried different codecs for TV? Try with MPEG2Dec for video and MPEG/AC3/DTS/LPCM for audio.

    Kind regards,
    Michel
