Quick question:

When I start, or stop, video playback I briefly see my desktop/taskbar flash on the screen. It can last only a split second or sometimes it can hang there for 5+ seconds. Is this normal or do I have a configuration problem?

It's not a big deal but it makes things feel not-so-seamless and I'd like to find a work around for it. FYI, I am using the latest stable MP on Vista /w NVIDIA graphics. I believe the same thing happened when I was running MP on XP.

Here's the first idea I had as a workaround: (anyone try something similar?)

Set desktop background to solid black. Edit the registry so MP is my shell, not explorer.exe, when I start/stop videos I would simply see a black background instead of my desktop icons, task bar, etc. This wouldn't really fix the problem but it would be less distracting.

I hope some of you might have some input on this problem. I love MP so far. I've tried virtually every HTPC software on the planet (myth, MCE, Beyond TV, Sage TV, MediaCentral, Frontrow, etc etc, etc, etc) and MP is, by far, the best solution in terms of functionality and features.

Hi jsz0

I know this post was a while ago but did you ever work out why it was doing it?

I've just "upgraded" to Vista and I'm having the same issue you had. It was fine running on XP though.

Thanks in advance

I have this same problem. MP 0.2.3.0 and Vista Home Premium. It is very distracting. Did anyone get this fixed?
jsz0, Did your workaround work to lessen the distraction?

I had a similar problem.

Check if you enabled "always on top" for both mediaportad and windows taskbar, this can be the source of your problem.
