I'm looking at building a media pc. My goal is to have a machine upstairs with my tv and all my storage downstairs on my server. I don't plan on recording tv, just playing movies/mp3 on it for now. I have a couple graphics cards kicking around the have DVI output on them, I was going to get a DVI to component adapter to hook to my tv.

My questions are:

1) Does it matter what resolution that is running on the system? or does MP output at the highest possible the card will allow? I'm confused on this one lol

2) I plan to rip all my DVD's onto my server, what resolution would be best to play back at?

3) What would be a GOOD card to just play back video on? I need something that will do component output and AGP :)

Thanks!!
Walter

if you need to stick with an AGP interface, I think the 7xxx series cards are the best nVidia ones that you can use.
I have a 6600 AGP card that still works really well and has component output.

For the resolution of the gfx card, just like an LCD, you are best off finding out the native resolution of your TV and outputting at that res.
