Hi all, newcomer here, just came over from xbmc and had a question about the remote control features on mediaportal on windows 7 ...

I had an idea where instead of buying another MCE remote control, I could just use the one that comes with my TV since it has a lot of buttons on there that aren't used + i can control 2 things (tv and mediaportal) with one remote. Here's my remote by the way ( link ).

Here's the IR receiver that I bought to accept the remote control ( link )

My question is, how do I configure mediaportal to do all this? Would I use winlirc to accept the codes and if so, what do I do next? Do i add the control codes in mediaportal's remote control configuration?

Any help would be appreciated :) Thanks in advance!

EDIT 1: forgot to mention that ehome drivers were automatically installed when I plugged in the ir receiver
EDIT 2: it looks like I can't use winlirc because it uses COM ports and the ir receiver i bought is plugged into the usb port...
EDIT 3: maybe I can use the usbuirt to configure the remote? since it's a usb device and pretty much the same as mine?
EDIT 4: never mind... found out that winlirc can emulate a com port, however all the com ports don't work. only com1 can get past the learning button but when it comes time for me to press a button on the remote, winlirc will time out and say it didn't receive any signal..
EDIT 5: the ir receiver's not fault, everytime i press a button on my remote, the light on the receiver blinks
EDIT 6: other people have submitted lirc configurations for the same tv remote control i'm using, take a look here: http://pastebin.com/b36rHafR i found it from here but have no idea how to put this to use

I'm afraid there is no reason to believe that this receiver would work with just any remote. It would have to be an RC6, maybe any MCE remote will work, but not the Samsung.

Turn things around; get yourself the matching HP remote and use the blaster function to control the TV. You can learn the Samsung codes with something like HM Remote Keymap.

    Success.

EDIT 5: the ir receiver's not fault, everytime i press a button on my remote, the light on the receiver blinks

Don't be fouled by the light. I once searched for hours to find out why MP only reacted to the remote ever so often. The light blinked with every push of a button, but ... the batteries where dead anyway

Hey VdR, thanks for the reply! At least someone replied hehehe :)

Well, I have GREAT news, i found out that WinLIRC only supports com ports and somehow I ended up on a lifehacker blog post where someone recommended to use IR Server Suite since it supports USB IR Receivers.

So I tried it out and guess what?!

Without the HP MCE remote OR the ir blaster, it started picking up my signals PERFECTLY. I haven't finished configuring all the buttons but here's a screenshot of what I have so far using my samsung tv remote control!!
