Since a few days I have mc2xml working to download EPG data. I have been able to download this data into MP one time when I was setting up the channels. After that I have been unable to update the guide. The mc2xml part works fine, this gets downloaded every 2 days in a scheduled task. I have set the task to download the file to c:\xmltv\tvguide.xml

In MP config I have pointed the program guide directory to this location. There is also a task scheduled in the scheduler tab. When I check in the task log, it says the task has run. But, I don't see anything changing in the guide. No new data is in there and the data is still from the first time I got it to load.

How can I manually force the guide to refresh? Or check if is working ok?

No, as said above, I'm using the mc2xml tool to generate the tvguide.xml file. The file itself is ok I think as it was loaded one time already when setting up the tuners.

The problem is in getting MP to refresh it every 2 days or so.

That's what the xmltv plugin is for. Tell it where your out file from mc2xml is, and it will import it into the database whenever the file is updated.

Okay, but now I have a problem I think. I don't have a tv server installed. I choose during install that TV would only be watched from this tv. No server was installed. Does this mean I have to re-install MP? That would be very bad news as I have just spent the last weeks configuring my htpc :(

Are there any instructions as to how you should install it? Does it need the server or is my setup als ok?

    Hi,

I just attach to this post as I hope, I got a specialist for the xmltv plugin:

The update works perfect, when the file is stored local on the server. But whenever I try to connect to a file on a cliente \\clientname\clientfolder, it never updates. Manual (forced) update, however, is working.

Reason for this: As I normally do not run MP on the server, WebEPG never is started on the server, but on the client. And I did not find a possibility to adjust the folder where WebEPG does write its file.

    Any idea?

    And to henk99:
How can I manually force the guide to refresh? Or check if is working ok?
In the xmltv plugin on the server, it will tell you when and how many channels/programms it added.

For reinstall (if necessary, I do not know): Check this plugin: backup settings

    Thanks! Alfred

    Hi Alfred,

I think you have posted accidentally in the wrong thread. I have no idea what you are saying  Are you sure you are answering my questions?

    Hi Henk,

the first part was addressed to globaldonkey, as it refers to xmltv-plugin.

The second part (And to henk99) is a response to your question.

Yes you should consider migrating to TV Server (TVE3). It is the next generation of MediaPortal's TV Engine. Here is a comparison. The main benefit is that it has much better card detection capabilities, and you don't need to be running MP all the time to ensure your scheduled recordings happen. I don't think the xmltv part of TVE2 works particularly well.

I don't think the Windows SMB protocol supports "watching" files or folders on network shares. This is a windows limitation, nothing to do with MP. You could either:

    1. Run MP on your server (it doesn't have to be running for the WebEPG plugin to kick off)
    2. Schedule a task in Windows on your client to copy the file across from the client to the server.

mc2xml is fantastic. But no matter what method I choose to generate a TVguide.xml (WebEPG, mc2xml, other thirdpart tools, I've tried them all), MP refuses to import the data. Channels are imported but the xmltv plugin refuses to import the guide data. "no programs found;" is always the message.
