1. Run MP on your server (it doesn't have to be running for the WebEPG plugin to kick off)
Hi globaldonkey,
I think with this response you are wrong (unfortunetely). I just tried (after 1 day wating, as I was not sure if this makes a difference).
  • The WebEPG grabbing (in this case on the single seat PC, where the TVserver is installed) does NOT start when scheduled when MP is not started.
  • As soon as MP is started, WebEPG grabbing starts (as its after the scheduled time already).
  • Even when WebEPG started grabbing, it stops, when MP is closed (easy to trace in the Log-file).
  • WebEPG grabbing continues, when MP is started again.
So I will use your second idea (copy by a scheduled task) and maybe I will suggest a change for a further version (WebEPG independant of MP, maybe include this plugin into the server).

Thanks anyway for your help!

Alfred

hmmm ok, I'll stand corrected. Thanks for testing and posting back. Maybe I was thinking about how I use PowerScheduler in TV server to put my system in standby when I'm not using it, and I have it set to wake up just before 3am when WebEPG kicks off.

I've tried mc2xml for three days now. There are some problems. Somehow not every channel is imported eventhough all channels are available in the xml file and channels have been properly mapped. Ans as Henk said, from the second automatic import not data will be imported. The guide stays empty eventhough the tvguide.xml file has been updated.

    Bram,
have you seen this post? looking at the reactions it appears to be working. I myself can't get this TV server working yet, but hopefully I will manage this in the near future

If you are using TV Server now, make sure you don't have DVB-T grabbing enabled for channels that you are trying to import with the xmltv plugin. The DVB-T grabbing could be "over-writing" you xmltv import.

If you are having problems with the xmltv plugin working 100%, you could try this alternate: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/.../epg-downloader-service-tv-server-only-32166/

It pretty much does the same thing as the xmltv plugin, but runs as an external service to MP / TV Server, and can download xml data from websites. You can also configure it to import a local tvguide.xml file into the TV Server database. It enables you to use more than one source for your tv guide data, which is one of the limiting factors of the xmltv plugin for me.

Hi globaldonkey, why that? I am using different sources within WebEPG (even configurable in WebEPG-config). See attached example (just 2 channels 1 day, different sources for the 2 channels).

Yes you can do it with WebEPG too. It's just a bit trickier to configure and get working as a total package:

ie configure WebEPG xml grabber, configure WebEPG channel maps, ensure WebEPG plugin in MP is configured (and as you found out, MP client has to be running), configure xmltv plugin to import the data.

If your data is already in xmltv format (which it is with mc2xml), either locally or on a server somewhere and you don't need to scrape it from a web page, then the EPG downloader is much easier to use AND it runs as a service in the background (ie you don't have to have MP ruinning for it to work).

To put it in context, there are three processes in getting xmltv data into TV Server:

    1. scraping from the web (if the data is not already in an xmltv format)
    2. downloading
    3. importing into the TV database

WebEPG does 1 and 2 and xmltv plugin does 3.

EPG Downloader does 2 and 3 only, but does not require MP to be running to do it. And it has a much easier to use interface than editing an xml file.
