Here is another re-occurring RC3 TV server stability issue that I now have been able to document.

When starting any stream (live TV, recored TV, movie) on a client MP becomes unresponsive (have to ctrl-alt-del), but the streaming continues. When this happens it is happening on both clients. Restarting the client does not help (that is; after restarting MP, again if you start a stream MP becomes unresponsive). Restarting the TV/Media server does solve the problem.

Debug logs of a client showing this behavior (started MP, started video playback, not responding, ctrl-alt-del) are attached.

    Last lines show a warning:

    2010-06-11 18:53:12.421875 [Info.][(11)]: PowerScheduler: Keep server alive
    2010-06-11 18:53:28.687500 [Warn.][(14)]: Main: ***** OnDeviceLost *****
2010-06-11 18:53:28.687500 [Warn.][(14)]: Planescene caught DeviceLostException in InternalPresentImage
    2010-06-11 18:53:37.421875 [Info.][(11)]: PowerScheduler: Keep server alive

    What does this mean?

    I have a similar issue.
In fact, TV server just dies without further warning. I experience this rather "reliably" after some time of watching HD.
(In this case, it was ARD HD, and it happened twice in the midst of a world cup game. Did not increase the WAF factor :-( )
Here are the last words of the TV server in tv.log (and the first two lines of the new instance that I had to start manually (as you can see, I was quite fast in running to the basement and restarting the service :) )):

2010-06-13 20:57:38.945702 [RTSP Streaming thread(20)]: RTSP: Streamer stopped
2010-06-13 20:58:24.154502 [HeartBeatMonitor(10)]: Controller: Heartbeat Monitor - kicking idle user WandPC
    2010-06-13 20:58:24.154502 [Powerscheduler Timer(5)]: NetworkMonitorHandler: idle limit in KB/s: 2
    2010-06-13 21:01:12.372502 [(5)]: TV service: Starting
    2010-06-13 21:01:13.854502 [TVService(5)]: TVService v1.0.7.0 is starting up on Windows Vista ( Service Pack 2 )

I have a multiseat RC3 installation. (The server in fact is a complete new installation of Vista+sqlserver+RC3)
The windows event log just mentions that the tv service has died unexpectedly.

Is there more information that I can collect? (I don't think that the client logs will help much)

This means that your GPU has crashed. Normally MediaPortal will try to recover if possible, but in your case it seems it cannot do so.

From your description your issue is not similar at all to the one VdR has. Your log fragment does not help. Please start a new thread and post FULL logs.

    Thanks for the info.

This is from the client's MediaPortal.log file, but that client kept streaming the image, could it do that if it's GPU crashed? When this problem occurs it is on both clients (with different graphics cards) at the same time and only restarting the TV server helps, could it be that it was the GPU in the TV server that crashed?

The lacking stability of the RC3 TV server had degraded my whole h/w setup to nothing more than a fancy set of door stops (except the Zotac, this is so small and light it is no good as such).

I contemplated to go back to RC1, but since that is rather cumbersome and upgrading is so easy these days I decided to first try upgrading everything to RC4 instead. The upgrade went without any trouble.

Debugging starts from scratch, keeping my fingers crossed.
