I tried to install RC4 today. Install seemed to go fine. I chose the automatic install. I then followed instructions for setting up TV Server and got stuck immediately as I could sign on to the Sql Server 2005 database. I entered the userid of sa and password MediaPortal as instructed but no luck. I got error message below that suggested there was no process at other end of the pipe. Or I got message indicating that userid and password were essentially invalid. I've looked at various forum entries on this issue and can't find any that help me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connection failed!
A connection was successfully established with the server, but the an error occurred
During the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 -
No process is on the other end of the pipe.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What to do next? I don't want to install MySQL.

I have tried re-booting by no help. I don't have Windows Vista Firewall switched on as I use McAfee Security Center firewall and the other tools included in that package to protect my computer. I am an IT person and know Vista pretty well so technical response would be fine for me.

By the way I tried to go to the link that you pointed to in blue but nothing comes up apart from a message that I should contact administrator.

I'm getting the same problem on XP, latest SP and all patches, DVB fix for XP, Media Portal 1.0 RC4.

I'm using the Single Seat installation, no HD.

Furthermore, I followed all the install instructions to the letter, but I don't have any option to tune the TV channels - the TV set-up doesn't have anything about channels and I can't see the tuners (in Configuration).

The latest TV tuner drivers are installed (Hauppauge Nova-T-500 dual DVB-T tuner).

Any suggestions on this, as I primarily want Media Portal as a PVR?
Thanks.

Hi,

Does anybody have any suggestions about this problem?

My TV card is installed correctly, appears in Device Manager, but does not show up in Media Portal.

Also, the SQL server connection error (above) still happens. Are any other people experiencing this?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Has the pc you are using this on internet access or not, if no you may wish to try https://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/TV-Server/FAQ, tip about MS loopback Device.

Also see here, SQL area Config is under your Start menu.

By the way I tried to go to the link that you pointed to in blue but nothing comes up apart from a message that I should contact administrator.

Damn, link must have changed, now sorted.

I removed Media Portal and did a re-install. I took a different route in the beginners set-up guide and this time got it working.

I think the guide should be changed, because in Step 1, it says:

"Important Note...If you selected to watch HDTV during the installation process, then complete Step 2 :- TV Server Setup first, otherwise you can skip it and start with Step 3 :- MediaPortal Setup".

I answered 'no' regarding HDTV during installation, so when following the beginners guide, I skipped step 2. As a result, I had no TV cards listed in Media Portal.

Maybe this is down to my interpretation?!?

Anyway, TV is working fine now, but I don't have any TV guide data. I checked the EPG settings and all looks okay. Is there a way to kick it off to download or do I just have to wait a while?

TVServer config\general settings\epg, change the epg timeout from 10 to 12\15, 12 works best for me, but your transmitter may be slightly different.

TV Channels\TV and Radio epg grabber select all the channels you wish, go to manual control, stop the TVService, wait until it has responded and start TVService, then refresh DVB epg, this should fully populate within 15 minutes if left idle.

You might like this tool, it puts a icon in the systray, so you know what TVServer is doing.

Thanks for the advice; EPG is now working! :)

I've also applied the seasonal Christmas skin for good measure!!

I have one further question, slightly off the topic...in order to install Media Portal, I created a second partition on my HDD and installed XP.
I repaired my Vista boot record using the tool on the Vista installation DVD and then used EasyBCD to sort out the boot sequence, etc.

This is all fine and I can see the Vista partition when I'm running XP, and the XP partition when I'm running Vista. However, the PC contains an additional HDD for data such as music and movies. Unfortunately, I can no longer see this disc in Windows Explorer (Vista or XP).

I CAN see it in Computer Management, but it has no letter assigned.

Any idea what's happened and how I might solve it?
