If any of you great developers has taken on this problem, here are some facts and treads to help you:

Fact: Browsing shares in a client is painfully slow under some conditions.

Here is how to reproduce the problem:

1: No MP running in server. Fresh started client. Listing time: 3 sec. Moviestart time: 3 sec. Moviestop time: 3 sec. Exit folder and back in: 3 sec. Exit folder and back in: 3 sec....

2: MP is started in server. Client still running. Listing time: 5 sec. Exit folder and back in: 10 sec. Exit folder and back in: 20 sec. Exit folder and back in: 30 sec. ...see where this is going?

3: MP in server shut down. Client still running. Listing time:8 sec. Exit folder and back in: 14 sec. Exit folder and back in: 10 sec. Exit folder and back in: 14 sec. ...seems to stay around these times.

4: MP in server still off. MP in client restarted. Listing time: 3 sec. Moviestart time: 3 sec. Moviestop time: 3 sec. Exit folder and back in: 3 sec. Exit folder and back in: 3 sec. ...back in sqare 1

The logs are not helping in this case.
Thumbs or no thumbs = same result, so nothing to do with graphics.
Gigabit lan or wlan = same result, so nothing to do with lan-speed.

    Hi Swede,
are there any news about this problem in the meantime? I've got a pretty large video collection and recently set up a client server system. I can fully confirm your experiance with slow browsing of shares and could add many German threats dealing with this issue too. I really wonder if this is a problem which could be easily solved or not. As far as I am concerned it is most probably the biggest performance problem of Mediaportal at all. It is really no fun any more browsing my shares which I really liked before setting up my new client server solution.

After all, i noticed also a delay with the previous single seat system (in particular external hard drives) but it was more a fraction of the time I wait using the network solution which is in worst cases up to 45 seconds starting a file or nearly 30 seconds opening a folder with many folders or files in it. I would really like to appeal to our developers to do something against this performance issue!!!

boxbooster I have also a quite nice collection of music, movies and tvseries. since some time ago I notice that it was impossible to browse through shares in normal view.

    therefore I recommend you use:
    moving pictures for movies
    tvseries for tvseries (of course)
database view inside mymusic for music

OK, this is what I suggested. It's a pain in the axx that browsing of shares has and possibly will never be improved! I now installed

    - TV-Series (its OK for series, but I don't own much of them),

    - Moving Pictures (really nice, but since I didnt configure the cover art script at the beginning, I have American cover designs now and there is no possibility to get german ones, except of deleting the complete database again ...)

and tried working with the database view in my audio section. For me this is really awful because if I chose artist then of course every artist (also of those many samplers I own) is displayed... This will never be a good choice for me. Onother reason ist, that I use both MP3 files and flac files. All music files in the flac folder are also availabe in the mp3 folder but not vica verca. I do this, because I want to have my CD collection available in high quality format but also as mp3s in order to be able to use them with my mobile mp3 player. On the other hand I own MP3s I bought online, which are not available as flac files. The result is that in the artist view I have many albums displayed twice and I don't know which ist the one with the highest quality (flac). These are two good reasons for me to use Winamp or the slow share view...

Nevertheless, thanks to both of you for your help! :D
