I just bought a new mobo and cpu. I'm upgrading to a totally different chipset and Windows needs to be re-installed anyhow. I'm trying to figure out the what I need to do to backup MediaPortal and For The Record and then restore it so that I don't have to re-configure everything from scratch. This is a system just being used as a server and I'm using the MP TV Server in addition. Any tips?

I've also been thinking about using MS SQL Server instead of MySQL, would this be a good time to make that change as well?

If it's the same version of windows you could use an image of the whole hdd. I use acronis for that. If you are happy with the way everything is installed currently it may be the easiest way. Then if you use any external epg grabbers or anything like that they'll also be restored.

Otherwise you can backup mp settings with the plugin called backup settings (!).
Maybe ask on that forum if it does everything as I don't know. And you could also ask there if it can handle the change of database.
As a minimum I'd take a copy of the whole program data/team mediaportal folder anyway.
I don't use ftr so can't help there.
