Record channels in encrypted format without using the CI-card? (1 Viewer)

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this so I just try here and hope that I'm not going to be flamed if I'm in the wrong place.

I've seen a digital PVR that has two recivers but only one CI, but can still record two encrypted channels at the same time (or watch one and record another).
This made by recording the channels in a encrypted format on the HD and is then decrypted at a later time.

Can this be done in MediaPortal?

even if you could record an encryped channel, you could never view it, because its is impossible to send the datastream back to the TV-Card (+ Ci + CAM + Smartcard) to get it decrypted.

OK. Then I'll redirect my question to the hardware/driver manufacturer instead.

From what I have read, the Sky+ box does just this i.e. it records the channel in the native (encrypted) stream, and then when viewed the decryption happens. This means that the CAM / Card is only required for viewing and not for recording.

If this were possible in MP, then this would allow many DVB-S cards to be used for recording concurrent programs and then only need a single CI / CAM / Card to view the recordings.

I understand infinityloop comments about this not being possible due to not being able to redirect the datastream back to the DVB-S card. Is this a definite absolute or has someone seen this being done.

    Is it worth persuing further?

It would be nice to be able to get "equivalent" capabilities as the sky+ box, as without being able to record one program while watching another (with a single card) will be too limiting for many users.

SetTopBoxes always come with "their own special hardware/software solution".
i dont know an HTPC application/TV-card which offers this "offline" solution.

i am also not sure how this should work because here in germany/austria the "biggest" paytv provider changes the key nearly ever 24hours.
so when i play an "offline" movie i recorded last week then this will not work because on my smartcard i allready have a newer key, then the movie was scrambled with?

Thanks InfinityLoop. I am sure it will happen one day, or possibly the entire issue will dissapear when we all get 100Mb/s internet connections with unlimited content available via the internet.
