I use MP 1.1.0 RC4. My set-up consists of a standalone MP-TV-Server and 2 remote MP-clients. It works very well. This also is valid for recordings as long as they are kept on the TV-servers local drive.

Now, I tried to configure the TV-server to save the recordings on a network drive located on server (WHS). It's possible to configure it and the configuration is accepted. But it doesn't work. Is it a supported configuration? Here the corresponding TsWriter log:

You do not have access to the destination folder:
    Code:
    07-06-2010 22:41:27.500 Recorder:unable to create file:'\\Dino\Videos\Recordings\Tagesthemen - Das Erste - 2010-06-07.ts' 5
    5=ACCESS_DENIED

Make sure that the user configured to run TVService has access to the network share (you did change the service user to something other than LocalSystem, right?)

PS: Next time attach full logs, do not paste log fragments inline.

You're right. I didn't change the TVService owner as I have no idea how to do it. So the owner currently is the default one: "SYSTEM". This user definitely has no access to the WHS.

As I wouldn't like to create a further user on the WHS I'll have to change the owner of the TVService. Any suggestion how to do it? Or is there any way ti say WinXP which user SYSTEM shell use for accessing the WHS?

PS: Next time attach full logs, do not paste log fragments inline.
I'll keep that in mind when raising an issue in the future.

Thanks a lot for looking into this.

    1. If this is XP Home or XP Pro in Workgroup mode, you first have to create a user with the same name and password on both XP and WHS. If it is XP Pro in Domain mode you need to create the user only in WHS.
    2. Then open up Services (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services).
    3. Find TVService in the list of services and double-click on it.
    4. Click on "Log On" tab, select "This account" and type the name of the user you just created. For XP Home use <XP Computer name>\<user name>. For XP Pro in domain mode use <domain name>\<user name>.
    5. Type in the password (twice) and press OK
    6. Restart the service

Edit: Marking thread as No Bug

Thanks for the detailed description. After I changed the service user writing recordings to the network drive works perfectly.
