I am about to purchase an HDMI cable to hook my computer up to my 32" HDTV. I'd like my PC to act as a sort of HTPC, so I was planning on buying a remote control. I've seen plenty of worthwhile remotes, but most of them say "MCE" (Media Center Edition), and say Certified for Vista. I was about to purchase this eDATA DEC-200B remote, but I saw people complaining that it didn't work in XP or Linux. I currently have both Windows XP Home Edition x86 (32-bit), and Windows Vista Home Premium x64 (64-bit), but I mostly use XP and would rather have the remote set up to work with XP. I've also got MediaPortal setup and working on XP, so basically MCE is out of the question right now and I will be using MediaPortal. I'd also like to have a button programmed on the remote to open MediaPortal (just like when you hit the Windows button on the remote it opens MCE), and I'm not 100% positive if you can program the Windows button to do that or not. If anyone knows if it's rather easy to get the eDATA DEC-200B to work on XP, I'd greatly apprieciate it. I saw someone say that there are "hacked" drivers out that work flawlessly, but I googled "eDATA DEC-200B XP Driver" and "eDATA DEC-200B XP" and nothing came up. If ANYONE knows of a better remote, or a very similar one that works with XP and MediaPortal for $20-$45, I'd greatly appreciate it. All I'm asking for is a black remote (yes I am picky on the color ), that isn't too big or too small (so around 5-9 inches, and can work with XP and MediaPortal. I am not afraid if I have to tweak some things via MediaPortal to get the remote to work how I want it, I'm quite computer savvy so that is not an issue.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
