Remote Choice (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone. I'll say thanks in advance for the advice. I built myself a HTPC and running MediaPortal with moving pictures and I love it. I bought a cheap $8 remote from MeritLine and it does work but a lot of buttons don't. I want to use full potential of a remote control. Can someone please recommend a remote that you KNOW works with all the features right out of the box? I would especially be please if you could provide links to the exact remotes, so there's no confusion. Thanks again.

Well Dang!!!! The first remote you listed is THE REMOTE I'M HOLDING IN MY HAND!!!!!

I can't get half the buttons to work. I'd like to get the buttons "My Videos","My Pictures" and "My Music' working where they would jump to that section inside MediaPortal.
Also, inside the Moving Pictures setup, I can't scroll up and down on the main menu. Please advise or others continue pointing me to remotes that work correctly out of the box.

That is not native functionality so you'll need a plugin. You could try the Shortcutter plugin...

Also, inside the Moving Pictures setup, I can't scroll up and down on the main menu.

LOL read Lyfesaver74 docs on that remote and it will work. I use a Hauppauge and a Logitech Harmony... so im no help with that remote....

Did you read that post (Good MCE Remote w/Mouse for $9 mapping included) complete from top to bottom? It talks about getting the KeyboardInput plugin and extracting the Keyboard.xml file to your hard drive. Lyfesaver74 is really helpful with answering questions as well, if you post in that thread.

No problem. I have the same remote. The only thing that I cannot get the remote to do is to have the HTPC resume from sleep using the remote. It goes to sleep using the remote fine. Let me know how that works out for you.

This is probably a heresy to admit it on this forum, but I also installed XBMC and that same remote worked out of the box (no changes required). I was pleasantly surprised.
