Sorry for crossposting, looks like I had this in the wrong area...
This is a multipart question/comment/revelation.
First part:

Greetings all
I have been thinking of using my Dell M60 as a kinda "portable htpc" and
was wondering if it is possible to have an mce style remote work with it.
One that, of course, can control MP. I guess I'd have to find some sort of
usb ir reciever or greentooth or something. Has anyone here tried such a
thing?

Also, I was looking for a usb tv tuner to use with said laptop.
Right now Im leaning to the WinTV-USB 125 Channel TV Tuner
because its the only one I've seen so far that has FM radio
(I like to use radio probably more than tv) Has anyone had
any experience with this particular unit. Or have any recomendations?
Thanks for the help

Second part:
OK, nevermind dumb question.
Did a little research and there are several tv tuners with radio AND remote which seem
to be ok with a laptop. Namely the Hauppauge WinTVPVR USB2 which according to the
wiki here has be tested with MP and works with it. Guess thats what I want then.
Has anyone tried one of these things?

Third part:
Still a question lurks...
What I have read about this device so far gives me the impression that the remote
control ONLY controls the win tv tuner and nothing else. ie I cant scroll up and down
MP's menu and make other selections (play music, radio ripped videos etc.)
Can anyone confirm this for me? I've never used a tuner in a pc before so Im totally
in the dark here.
Is this behavior typical of all tuner cards?
If such a device does not allow me to control MP, is there some other
device I can plug into a usb port that will allow me to control MP?
Thanks for any input.

And finally:
Are all the tuner/remote combo's able (theoretically) to control MP and all its
functions? Some say they are made for MCE only, or VISTA only but MP can still
understand them? So if I bought the above mentioned Hauppage, it should work
(control) MP? I also thought of getting just a "plain" usb tuner and a seperate
remote (so it would not require the tuner box to work) such as the keyspan vista remote
which looks really nice. Any comments/suggestions?
And, incase anyone is wondering, no, I have never used a pc tv tuner or remote so
Im totally in the dark here. Hence all the basic questions.

This may be what you are looking for but a REALLY inexpensive solution is to buy this remote from Creative

http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=16&product=14709

It is 29$ USD on most sites like BUY.COM and the best part is if you are running WinXP or Vista you do not need to install ANY drivers. It just works out of the box. Then you need a program like Intelliremote to control MediaPortal, Powerpoint, ITunes, you name it with the remote. I like it because since its just a USB plug in you can take it to any machine you want and use the remote. Your Laptop, your desktop, your PC at work, whatever.

I own one of these remotes and have found it well worth the 29$.
