Just bought an MCE remote to control MP on my TV

All the controls are working.
Whenever I use the remote, every so often my philips lcd restarts. The light on the tv doesn't blink whenever i use the remote like the tv remote. It does it every time i push 4-5 buttons on the remote. Sometimes the picture is offset when the picture comes back. This seems to happen even if MP is closed.
Any idea what is wrong?
I was thinking about buying another universal remote. Do I need new usb receiver if I were to buy another remote?
