Hi all! I've only been using MP for a couple of days so please forgive me if this is a known issue (I have searched extensively, but haven't found any info on my problem).

I am controlling MP with a home-built serial IR receiver, using winlirc. This works perfectly except when I am fast forwarding through a video and MP ignores my remote commands to pause or resume "normal" play speed. Sometimes it will respond after I have pressed the remote multiple times. If I use the keyboard to pause, it responds immediately.

I get this issue using winlirc -> winlirc plugin for MP, and also winlirc -> IRSS

Does anybody else have this issue with a serial remote? Is it worth investing in a MCE USB remote to see if this fixes it?

I've had a bit of time to do some more investigations, and found that this only happens when I'm streaming a file over the network. If I play file from the local hard drive it's fine.

Looking in the IRSS debug window I don't see any remote events when there is high network utilisation. I confirmed this by playing a local file while copying a large file over the network. No response from remote until I cancel the file copy and then everything is fine again.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can prioritise the network comms from WinLirc?

Maybe it would be easier to modify my IR receiver to be SerialUIR compatible, and eliminate WinLirc from the picture.

Winlirc, with the serial receiver does the timing CPU side. So if the CPU is under heavy strain and the thread doesn't have enough time it won't be able to accurately time the signal lengths, so won't work. You can try setting the thread priority to real time, and see if that makes any difference. An alternative is to get a different IR receiver. A genuince MCE receiver should work as a drop in replacement for your serial one with winlirc. The only catch is you need to be logged in as administrator, or just have admin rights. Guest accounts work work. No clue why, MS just designed it this way.
