"Remove disks or other media" error when installing dvbfix. (1 Viewer)

Hi

I downloaded and tried to install the dvbfix patch as described at [Patch] DVB Tuner Issue and channel-scan crash - Windows XP - MediaPortal Forum
I followed the instructions after reading the above page.

When I clicked on "runme.bat" a message indicated that it worked. However, on the restart. I could not get into Windows. I had a black screen and the following message
“Remove disks or other media
Press any key to restart”

When I pressed any key the message just came up again below.

I could get into the BIOS where I saw the following:
“Legacy Diskette A Not detected
Primary IDE slave Not detected”

Do you know why this happened?
It appeared as though it may have been due to the software and the "runme.bat" file that I ran as it happened straight after this. I have not seen the message before.

Is there are way I could uninstall the file or fix the problem in the BIOS?

There are plenty of comments on the error message as can be found on Google. However, the ones I saw did not appear to apply to my situation because I think it was due to the file that I installed.

I have not left a floppy disc in the drive. I did not do anything to the computer different apart from install the "runme.bat" file.

Have many people successfully installed the "runme.bat" file when trying to install the patch described in my earlier post where I tried to install dvbfix as described at https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ner-issue-channel-scan-crash-windows-xp-6344/ ?

Do you know of anyone that have had it crash their computer like I explained in my earlier post?

I am not sure if it would be worth the risk of me installing the file again if I can get my computer running again. Is there another file that I could install instead?

That post has over 200,000 views and no-one else has reported the issue you describe from the patch.

Paranoid Delusion (Ray) advised you in your other post to remove any media from the computer's drives - that would be floppies, cdroms, dvd's, and possibly usb sticks. You will likely find the machine will boot fine when you do this

this is the batch file you have run

%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /u mpeg2data.ax
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /u psisdecd.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /u psisrndr.ax
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 "%~dp0mpeg2data.ax
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 "%~dp0psisdecd.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 "%~dp0psisrndr.ax

All it does is register updated versions of several out-of-date files in XP. This is a similar process to that which occurs with RU2 of MCE for XP.

Installation:

1. download the dvb-hotfix
2. unzip the archive to c:\
3. enter the "dvb-fix" folder on c:\
Note: please just place it on c:\ because thats the safe way.
4. doubleckick the "runme.bat" which will unregister the broken files in "windows\system32" and register the new files in "c:\dvbfix"
5. restart your PC

The issue you describe that has absolutelly nothing to do with the DVBFix.

No idea which other issue your PC has that causes the problem.
I suggest to do the same that etheesdad allready suggested. Remove all "removeable media" (floppies, cdroms, dvd's, etc.)

To eliminate risk, simply create a disk image. Personally I think it's worth the few dollars to pay for Acronis True Image because of how bullet proof it is. However, there are free alternatives. I used DriveImageXML with success in the past. Here are more.

Computer fixed and TV tuning and minimizing Portal.

Thanks for the letters.

I managed to solve the problem with the computer. I think it was probably because I left a small audio recorder in the USB port. There was a power failure and the computer was stopped for a few hours. Then before I put the computer on I unplugged the recorder from the USB after some people advised me late on the previous day that something in the USB port could be a problem. I am surprised a simple thing like this could cause a computer such a problem in this day and age. I would have expected that modern computers would be fool proof against such things like this. I heard that floppy discs could cause a problem before. However, before the last posts on the forum, I never new the USB devices could cause a problem. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I managed to tune in the TV channels. Although, I am from the Cairns area and there was no option for Cairns. I tuned in one tuner for the whole of Australia and for the other one I tried Townsville. I hope I picked up everything??? For the Hauppauge HVR-2200 duel tuner card there were also two analogue tuners I had to tune in. I assume it would be one for each of the duel tuners. So there were 4 tuners all together that I had to run the scan for. Am I on the right track with all of this?

One thing I could not do was access a button to minimize Portal or access the other buttons on the Windows task bar. The only way I could do it that I found by trial and error was by pressing F2 to stop the program. Although Ctrl+Alt+Del would have probably done it as well. I managed to bring up two windows with options when the TV was on the screen. One was by right clicking on the screen and the other was by double clicking on the screen which enabled changing channels. It would be good if there were more options such as to minimize Portal to access other buttons and programs on my computer. Is there a way to easily do this?

If you want I could post the above two paragraphs on another question in the forum.

alt-enter will put MP into windowed mode, be aware this is not resizeable and will stop any existing video playing.

If you want to permanently run MP windowed, there's a tickbox in general options to "start in full screen" - if you untick it MP will always start in a window.
