First a big thanks to the MP team :D, you've given an old timer many happy hours bolting my HTPC together. For various reasons I had to remove the SQL Server Express 2005 from my XP system SP3, and now when trying to re-instal MP 1.02 it insists the data base is already installed, I've used a program removal tool to clean up the SQL program and the registry but no luck, any help appreciated.

just for the record, you used the correct password when you un-installed the SQL database and the tool showed the green icons for having removed the database? otherwise, yes - you would still have the database.

try installing MP again with the tvserver setting (you should be prompted for at password to create the SQL database) then uninstall MP again using the MP uninstaller and likewise when you installed tv server with SQL, you should be prompted for at password in order to remove the database again and in this sequence you should be notified by the MP uninstaller if the database was successfully removed - a window is shown with some green icons that indicate that the database was removed - if you type the wrong password (you chose the password yourself...) red icons are shown and the database remains on the pc.

I used windows control panel to remove SQL it didn't ask for a password

I don't think the SQL uninstall physically removes your MP databases. Did you check your data location and either move or delete the DB3 files? In XP they're in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Database. In the last year I think I've installed/installed MP about 10 times and like you found SQL to cause a lot of problems in that process.

:D Thanks to you both for answering, tried your ideas but still no luck. deleted the db folder but MP installer still believes MS SQL Express is still there In the meantime I've downloaded MySQL and it runs fine and as MP1.1.0 uses it I'll probably stick with that or re-install windows and clean the disk one day. Appreciate your help

In command prompt, type "sc delete mysql" then press "enter" key; reboot your machine and the database shall be removed. You can then set up the database again.
