Well I have been using meedio (and myhtpc) for a LONG time and have finally started looking around at a replacement. I have been playing with MP now for about a week and it looks good so far, BUT I have a couple of questions regarding configurations...

1) How do I specify what applications show in basic home? Is it skin dependant?
2) How do I remove/disable modules? For example I do not want "My Radio" or any radio named application in MP - how do I get rid of it? Again is it skin dependant?, because I have disabled it in the "Plugins" section of the setup app and it still shows up...

cheers,
pjo

    Hello pjo,

you can disable modules in the "MediaPortal configuration" -> "Plugins". The disabled modules won't show in MediaPortal anymore.

level20peon, that is what i thought should happen... but it's not! I am using the mpsp skin and when they plugins that I want disabled ARE disabled they still show up in the basic home screen. Am I missing something??? or is this an issue with the "basic home" screen???

Sorry pjo I haven't read your first post carefull enough. The basic home screen cannot be changed as far as I know. This is no bug as the title is "basic home screen" which means that it just offers MediaPortal's most basic features. The "normal" scrollable home screen (which I had in mind) however reacts on any plugins that are added or disabled.

Yes, it's a very important limitation in MediaPortal, basic home screen (for me it's the most important screen) can't be customized... what a pity. I hope that future versions of MP could change this. It could be a interesting idea to have three or four models of basic home screen (may be, horizontal plain... scrolling wheel... vertical scroller, etc) and all of these where customizable... allowing to add/remove shorcuts to that screen.

    regards,

hmmm... I have to agree with you patricon, this is a very important screen. As a new user (and a skin developer) trying to customize MP for my personal use, not being able to adjust the basic home screen is absurd. I have now looked through half a dozen skins and almost none of them have the same icons on the basic home screen - and of cousre none of them can be customized. I am guessing that this can only be accomplished from with code???

You are right, the only way to solve this is with code; It doesn't should be a difficult task, but i suppose that any of the programmers have time to do that. May be that some day anyone takes in account my idea to develop a system for customizing the home screen. For this the basic home screen should be standardized, and my idea is to use a few models for basic home screen that skinners could change with gfx, and may be that also the same with all other screens in mp... for me that's the weak point in mp, the lack of rules in mp system... this causes that some skins that are valid only a few months ago, now aren't valid....

    regards,
