I noticed one or the restrictions to using the Replacement MP Tray app is that you must launch MP via the remote, or via its context menu.

I assume this is so it knows when MP is running, to release and take back IR control.

Couldn't it just check the process list for Mediaplayer or if a particular file is locked?

The reason I ask is what about the situation where you autostart MP at boot. In this case MP isn't launched via Replacement MP Tray app, so I guess the remote wouldn't work. Yes or am I missing some critical info here?

    Hey Rob,

You're right, the reason is because it needs to give up control of the IR device.

But you can tell Replacement Tray to launch MediaPortal on boot to get around the problem you're having. Just tick "Run at boot time" and "Launch on load" in the MCE Replacement Tray setup, you get to the setup by right-clicking the tray icon.

I considered monitoring the process list, but decided this was easier and less prone to failure.

I have a new solution in "beta testing" that doesn't have this limitation. It's part of something I've called "IR Server Suite". But I wouldn't recommend changing on account of this small limitation.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the info. I think I'm right with the stardard driver for the time being, but if I need to change I will keep this in mind.

    Keep up the good work.
