I figured I might as well look at ripping some of my DVD collection to HDD to play through MP. Films seem to be fine and with a little tweaking some of the TV Series DVDS are fine.
There are a few DVDs however which looks terrible (Family Guy in particular). I have used DVD-Decrypter to rip to seperate IFO/VOB files for each episode and then AutoGK to convery to XVid. The pictures do not seem be anywhere near as good as when played from DVD with the picture appearing to shimmer (not sure how to actually describe this) and sometimes movement looking a bit jerky.
I have enabled cartoon mode in AutoGK and tried setting fps to 25 with no joy and ripped at 75% quality.
The other thing is that each of final AVI files are actually bigger than the original VOB files...
I am going to be better off just playing the VOB files directly as compressing to MPEG4 is actually making them bigger... or is this something else I can tweak to reduce the size?
