I've got a great problem with the rtsp streaming. Everytime I want to watch TV on my client the stream stops immediatly or after ca. 2s - this means video and audio are stopped. Sometimes, didn't find a rule until now, after about 30 - 35s the stream is starting now with multiple speed: I've got a normal sound but the video is running with mutliple speed. Some seconds later the video signal stops again but the sound keeps playing. This last again for about 30s. Then video and audio are synchronous again and the streams keep on playing.
Sometimes when switching TV on or switching channels I only hear a very short sound and afterwards the stream never starts. There I found a log entry like "Stopped stream because client is idle" or something like this.

I tested a local Mp-Installation on the server, too. And there Live-TV is working fine. I also tried to play a record on the client, but got the same problems like above. When I forward and backward the Timeshifting I also have these problems.

I'm using gigabit ethernet. The network display of the taskmanager is telling me a usage of about 0,5% when waching TV (if possible). I the meantime when the streaming problem appears the usage is 0%.
When I tried MP on my notebook via WLAN I got the same descriped problems, so the problem seems to be with the server. The server is running at about 20% cpu usage when recording a stream / timeshift-file.

The steaming problem is same with vlc. And I also tried it with installing a ramdrive -> still the problem.

I don't really know what else to check: locally it is running fine, but all clients (MP or VLC) have problems getting the stream.

What I just tested at the moment is coping a manual started timeshift-file to my local drive on the notebook and running it there. There I see stuttering when watching Pro7, when starting a stream with BBC I haven't got any stuttering.

Hopefully someone can help - I'm tired for today :)

The problem is fixed! I found the reason: it was the Cool'n'Quiet feature activated for the Sempron CPU. I installed the AMD Power Monitor and watched the CPU Load and Frequency when starting a stream. I have to add that the energy saving profile under XP was acitvated. After stream was started, the Frequency of the CPU was always toggeling and LiveTv on the clients was stuttering. After changing the energy profile to "Desktop" the CPU runs always with full frequency and the stream on the clients was smooth. The task manager of XP showed me on both cases a CPU Load of about 20% running a stream. But the AMD Power Monitor acutalizes more often its CPU Load Display and there you can see that the Load is 100% for a short. Because of this the CPU is switched to full power, but then the load is very low, about 10%. So it seams that the streaming has not constant load for the CPU and the sempron is just on border where it always has to switch its energy profile.
Afterwards it tested the server with the cpu of my client (BE-2300) and there is no problem with Cool'n'Quiet ==> the CPU always stays in low power profile (after actualizing the drivers ).

Mmmh, what is now more energy saving - a Sempron running all time at full speed or a dual-core BE-2300 with acitvated Cool'n'Quiet? So I did some testing and here my result:

AMD Sempron LE-1150
  • Live-TV + Desktop-profile: 66W
  • Live-TV + EnergySaving-profile: 60W
  • EPG grapping + Desktop: 66W
  • EPG grapping + EnerySaving: 60W
  • stopped TV-Service + Desktop: 63W
  • stopped TV-Service + EnergySaving: 55W

AMD Athlon BE-2300
  • Live-TV + Desktop-profile: 67W
  • Live-TV + EnergySaving-profile: 56W
  • EPG grapping + Desktop: 66W
  • EPG grapping + EnerySaving: 55W
  • stopped TV-Service + Desktop: 65W
  • stopped TV-Service + EnergySaving: 55W
