My DVDs and Recordings are all on an UnRAID fileserver.

After a while the disks spin down. When I want to watch a DVD I have to wait a few seconds for the disks to spin-up.

I can spin-up the disks by using a windows app, a command file, or a http call.

Does anyone have a good solution how I can make mediaportal call one of the above when it becomes 'active' (i.e. not in screensaver/low fps mode), or when the green menu button is pressed on the remote?
This would then spinup the disks when someone starts using MP, and should mean the disks are spun up in time before the user selects a DVD. Thus removing the annoying delay.

I can only think of modifying the MPTray code to cause the spinup? (Using MPTray and MCE remote)
Any other ideas or existing solutions?

You could use IR Server to do this.

You would have to use this instead of MPTray and have it run a simple batch file to start MP on green button press.

This way you could include whatever you wanted in the batch file and it will make your drives spin up and launch MP simultaneously.

It is very easy to do with IRServerSuite. One of the components is able to listen for remote events and translate them into anything. (I think it is called IR translator, but can't check now.)

Since I do a lot of testing I use it to be able to kill mediaportal with remote. Pressing "Clear" causes "Killtask mediaportal.exe" to be run. This functionality can be completely transparent to MCE remote handling.
