Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

For example my HTPC->LCD TV is connected by DVI and my TV work only in 60Hz from DVI source. I did some test and setup reclock to "reclock" all videos to 30fps.

If anyone likes the James Bond styled speedy chases then I see no issue on such huge (approx 20%) speed up in the playback speed. Majority of people wont accept such. Only 23.xxx to 24 or 25 is small enough not to cause physics to see too unnatural.

I was surprised it works even for LiveTV (if configured correctly).

Quite hard to see how it could work in even theory. There are two things that make it impossible:

1) Channel changes are confusing ReClock's internal timestamp patching, this can be seen on huge delays on some channel changes or really juddering picture.
2) Speeding up the real time sources is no possible even on theory. Just think what are the possibilities for ReClock to change the speed what broadcaster is sending the data (this makes it impossible to use ReClock for any rate matching in live tv)

If ReClock gets added to SAF, my advice would be that it wont be used for live tv (you can assign the audio renderer per player basis in MP).

You are right. As i wrote i was surprised it was working. I didnt see any video speedup, but reclock ikon is green (=in sysnc). Honesly, i have no idea how this process internaly work. I known it should speedup video playback but it did some other trick in my case to sync video. But result are nice (at last for me) - still not "dream perfect" but much, much better.
To tell the true, i dint want to use reclock before, until i start to watch LOST in HD.

I am new in this ReClock filter. It really surprised me, becouse i didnt even think it will be working for 60hz. For example i was not able to separate TV/video playback in GB-PVR to not use/use reclock, so i changed some reclock settings and it start to work even for livetv (there was glitch in audio before, now it is OK). 2days in test, no problem found right now, but i didnt test it in MePo.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

hoborg: I think Reclock should be optional during install, even if it's hard for a normal user to evaluate its pros and cons. I used to use Reclock, but I stopped for two reasons.

First of all, Reclock was being used for TV, and it seemed to produce glitches there. I couldn't stop it from doing so with anything else than uninstalling it.

Second, when I used 24Hz for all 23.976fps material Reclock worked nicely, changing the media speed to 24fps. However, after I started using 23.976Hz for 23.976fps material, Reclock suddenly had some problems. Instead of leaving the media speed alone or making minor adjustments, it still tried to make it 24fps.

I can see that Reclock would be a very good option for many who have TVs that for example don't allow some 24 multiple refresh rate. I think Reclock should be evaluated some more, on different setups, before being integrated.

Helios61: I have that problem exactly. I have two videos that used to play with a double image, because of the MPC decoder I think. Then, after that bug was fixed, they played normally except with no DXVA. Now after updating to the latest SAF (5.00) they won't play at all, throwing an error message like the one you see.

Yes, of course it will be optionall (yes/no durning SAF install), then i am thinking about creating start menu enable/disable (register/unregister filter) and create profiles (default settings, 60Hz TV, etc...)

Well in that case, go for it :) To be honest I would actually like to use Reclock, because I think it could be effective in making minor adjustments as well (maybe my computer won't always nail 23.976Hz exactly). I'm just not sure if it's possible.

The only other "problem" with Reclock is adjusting the v-sync. I have read numerous accounts on how to do it, but I'm still not sure how. Besides, I'm not even sure if you need/should set v-sync on all setups?

Nope, i didnt try that option (didnt see reason for that right now). Let GPU (drivers) handle vsync.

    Hi Hoborg,

I wanted to write up something on ReClock yesterday but Seeco beat me to it ;)

I used ReClock back with my old TV set which wasn't capable of displaying 24p natively and the stuttering from my TVs time interpolation made me dizzy. With ReClock I sped up the source material to 50Hz which worked very well (for most viewers the speedup isn't noticeable without direct comparison - actually most material is sped up for PAL TV). It had some glitches though as well...sometimes it would start stuttering even worse than without reclocking and I had to press pause/play to get it to behave again...

All in all I think ReClock is a great tool and worth to be included...but definitely make it optional like you did with VobSub etc.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

I use reclock as audiorender in videos with SPDIF passthrough. The reason for this is reclock gives WASAPI exclusive mode for flac files decoded to LPCM. This omits the windows mixes that resamples the audio. When my new Radeon 5450 arrives and I can passthrough DTS-MA and TrueHD I will no longer have to use flac audio when ripping blu-rays and reclock will be removed from the system.

When using a display not capable of 23.976 hz reclock may have a purpose, but I thought it broke DXVA? When using a proper display and bitstream all the audio, there is no need for reclock IMHO.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    Hi Guys,

sorry for my poor english. I have a problem. I installed saf 5 locked, and choose ffdshow in mp config. TV runs, but stuttering, graphedit shows the Windows 7 codec. If i install saf unlocked graphedit always shows the PowerDVD-Codec. It does not take ffdshow filter, not sd, not hd, not at videos, not at tv. I don't know why! Anybody got some ideas?

Simple. You need to use PDVD (unlocked SAF) for LiveTV.
FFDShow MPEG-2 is black listed in MP, FFDshow DXVA is not suported at all or blacklisted too (no idea).

I have not checked, but I was under the impression that ReClock does not work with DXVA - is this true?
