Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi,

I'm currently using SAF4 with MP V 1.1.2 and started using SAF4 when I installed MP V 1.1.1. Unsure if this is related to SAF or the new versions I installed, but since using both I have had freezing issues logged here

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/mediaportal-v1-1-2-randomly-freezes-92699/

Other uses have had the same or similar issues and also have SAF installed. Are there any known issues around this? I have read that users have moved on from SAF4 to SAF5.

Other questions:

This forum is headed "experimental". Is there a final stable version of SAF5? If so, how do I download from this forum and get the unlocked version (I see the "experimental" link but not one to a final stable version)? Also, when installing a new version of MP, does SAF have to be re-installed? Could this be causing my freezing issues??

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Graham

Hi.
About freezing - Try to reproduce your issue in Graphstudio (START-SAF-Tools-Graphstudio). If you are using audio passthrough, try to disable it. If you will be able to reproduce freeze in graphstudio - is not your machine (GPU) overheating? I use latest SAF5 in my own HTPC based on GB-PVR+XBMC and i don't have any freeze isues at all.
"Final" SAF doesn't exist. SAF is based on more projects (MPC-HC, FFDshow, etc...). All of them are still in developement, so release a "final" SAF5 - no way.
I would call all SAF5 releases you can download as "stable". If i found any issue in older SAF5 releases, i delete them.
But such issues are only small, nothing criticals. Right now i dont known any critical issue like crash, freeze, etc...

EDIT:
I checked you LOG:
- try to disable thumbs generator in MePo.
- you wrote you are using SAF5, but in log you have PDVD9 in use - PDVD9 is not part of SAF5...
- use default audio renderer instead of some kind of "SoundMAX Integrated..."

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi,

I have a problem with playback of MKV with DTS sound. I get dropped frames! When I playback the same file (or other ones) with Dolby Digital, I get no dropped frames! How can this be?

I tried SAF 4 & 5. Tried postprocessing with ffdshow audio decoder. Tried ac3filter. Tried Microsoft dvd\dtv decoder. Tried Owlsroost dshowhelper files + original. Nothing helps.

Anyone? Should be a simple setting I hope.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi,
After I upgrade the FFdshow from 4.0 to 5.0 ( un-lock), at my MP1.1.1

I found the video and audio will mismatch after I pressd the Fast forward in Video play.

My codec setting is same as you suggested.

Can I know why?

Hi Hoborg,

Thanks for your reply and also looking at my logs.

Your suggestion of disabling thumbs is an interesting one as I THINK I might have enabled those when I installed V 1.1.1 and V 1.1.2, so I will give that a whirl.

I'm not using SAF5 - just SAF4 with PDVD9

I have always used Soundmax Integrated as audio renderer, but will try the default if the thumbnial disable does not work.

Will let you know the outcome around my freezing issue and will also ask others looking at my freezing forum whether they have thumbnails on.

:D again.

hoborg,

FYI
I just tried to play the devilisch 1080p birdscene from NatGeo again. With SAF5 (20110214-unlocked), MP audiorenderer and dshowhelper.dll v69 it runs perfectly!! Including audio :)
Using pdvd or ffdshow dxva. Dont know for sure.

Did you try to play your video in Graphstudio? START-SAF-Tools-Graphstudio - open and play your video here.

Looks like it works in graphstudio in a quicktest. Will do a better test later. Can I see somewhere if there are frames dropped?

Double click on video renderer, there are statistics.

When comparing those with the MP statistic it is good to remember that frame dropping might not be done on same basis on both sides. MP drops every single frame that is late where as MS EVR presenter might still render those late frames (and cause A/V sync to drift).

I made a screenshot. Does this mean I got no dropped frames? Or are these the wrong statistics?
