Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

I disagree. It is MePo issue, becouse if it connect with EVR/VMR9 (SAF default), it will produce black screen.
Simple MePo definition to add "video renderer" to graph instead to use default one will fix that.

It would be a workaround for messed up DS system.

MePo is only software with this issue acording my experience, nobody else report any issue yet.

How many applications (other than setuptv.exe) is freely allowing the DS to build the graph? Not that many I bet.

Default video renderer can be changed by more reasons, not only by SAF.

Changing system defaults are always having a possibility for backfiring.

I rather prefer to have graphstudio working (to auto use correct video renderer) comparing to some preview MePo TV server setup window :)

It would be good to state that in some installation documentation - this has caused much headache already with support requests. Please tell the possible side effects to the end users so we don't have to spend lot of time when trouble shooting issues that SAF creates.

Better would be to not to touch the system defaults!

    Hi Hoborg,
many thanks for the great job!

In ARC you can insert the ".reg" file to load the desired settings of the audio codec based on the rendering selected (es. HDMI-TV-no_passthrough or s/pdif-Ampli-passthrough)

Can you show me the path to the registry keys of LAV Audio?.
Can you give me the correct settings with and without passthrough of LAV?:D

    Thanks.

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

    Hi,
I did open it in GraphStudio (File > Render Media File). It shows the diagram of the inputs, outputs, codecs, etc. When I click the play button, the first time, it flashes and closes immediately also. Then, when I click it again, the video plays, but just static for the sound.

Please let me know if that was the information that you're looking for, or if you need more (and how to get it please).

Thanks a lot for your response, I really appreciate it!!

Get MKVMerge (i suppose your file is in MKV).
    Remux your video here.
Try again - you can simply Start graphstudio, drag and drop you file here and hit play.
If still not working, cut small sample in MKVMerge and send a sample. I will test it.

Edit: I should also add that I'm in the process of setting up the live tv also, and there are video problems with that too. I don't know if it's related or not, but figured that I'd mention it.

This is problem of MePo TV service setup, it is using wrong video renderer if SAF is installed (default renderer instead of correct one).
Hope someone someday fix this :)

Ok, I ran the file through MKVMerge and i get the exact same results. I didn't do anything special with settings in the tool, I just added it as the input file and clicked the "start muxing" button. Was there something else that I was supposed to do? Also, you said to create a small file for you to test... I'm sorry, but how do I do that?

But, I've gotta ask... there's no way to just play these mkv files without having to run them through another program first? I'm very knowledgeable about computers, networking, etc, but not at all when it comes to audio and video. The only thing that I know is that my WDTV can play these exact same MKV files with no problem. So, why on my PC (much more powerful, capable and configurable) do I need to do some extra processing on the files to get them to play? I feel like I'm missing something...

Also, for the TV... So, you're saying that it's choosing the wrong one as the video renderer. So, how do I change that and what do I change that to?

Thanks again for the quick and helpful replies, I really appreciate it!

Edit: I've scanned some analog TV channels and when I preview them i get the audio, but no video. I've tried changing the settings in the TV Server config, but they don't seem to help. Is this related? Should I be changing settings somewhere else? Thanks again!

Edit 2: I've uploaded a sample of that file. It is a .mkv, so I just added a fake ".xmp2" extension on the end of the file name so it would upload. Just edit the file name to delete the ".xmp2" and that's a sample of the file that I'm having problems with. Thanks!

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

    Hi Hoborg,

I use SAF 5 beta and installed mepo 1.2.1.
how come i sometimes can play a mkv en sometimes not?

the one i can play is smaal in size en the one i can't play is 11 Gb.

I have to say it can't be played in mepo, the larger file i can play with mphc , besides the facht i have two suns instead of one.

    any suggestions?

    Look here, the same test:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/codecs-331/saf-v6-00-based-lavf-95635/index127.html#post802280

Simply if it is working in Graphstudio, then SAF working as it should.
You can try to use MKV merge and remux your file just to eliminate possible damage - just try it and see if any error popup.

Thx , i''ll take a look at the link above, and will try to remux the file ( i''ll have to google at that but i will work that out ;-)

So, do you know how to fix this problem? You've said that it has caused headaches with support questions, but I'm not sure if that means that you've figured out a way to fix it or if it's still broken?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

You could uninstall SAF6, reboot, reinstall it, but this time without the 'Tools'. Hopefully this will get rid of the setting. But may be there is a direct way to configure this?

Thanks for the reply. I may do that, but I'd like to see what I hear back on why some of my MKV files aren't playing first. I was hoping that SAF6 was going to FIX my problems, not CREATE more. haha

I can play your sample without any issue here.
About no picture in TV scan - just reinstall saf and this time disable tools durning SAF installation.

MKV Merge is good tool to detect/fix possible problems in MKV.
There was already SAf bug report about problems playing certain MKV. After MKV merge test, we found that the files was damaged.

Thanks for the reply. I may do that, but I'd like to see what I hear back on why some of my MKV files aren't playing first. I was hoping that SAF6 was going to FIX my problems, not CREATE more. haha

As i explainded already, this is not SAF issue. SAF only trigger problem in MePo :)

That's a cat and mouse game. How do you decide on which side the "problem" as such exists in this case? You are changing system defaults, which can and will cause unexpected behaviour.

    Yes, only in MePo :)
In my point of view, i founded possible MePo week side, identify the problem and report it.
And what i got? Instad of "thank you for report!" i got "Hey, don do that!"
If MePo team want to improve MePo, they should modify code (it should be qestion of 10min to fix it) to prevent this, make it more compatible on more systems.

As i already wrote, there can be a lot of reasons why the system is changed this way...
