Hi Hoborg.

In answer to your question, I used to use saf, but now use lav only.

I switched from saf bc I never encounter the less common video codecs anymore. Everything is h264 or h265 with aac/dts/dolby/ac3 and their derivatives. As a result i don't need all the great features of saf.

I still recommend saf to people if they don't get joy from the default lav setup!

Hi.

I use(older ver) SAF mainly because of XXX codecs. They tend to be the best for quality, Better than LAV.
And XXX sp works best with DVD mounted images.

There is no FFDshow DXVA for long time in SAF, so there is no advantage at all

Ahh ok. I noticed ffdshow used in first post of thread. Guess that is outdated recommendation.

Hi Hoborg. I have a problem with a video file. I cant open this file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u....Chant.Final.Chapter.Tour.2016.BDRip.720p.mkv with mediaportal, and cant open with MPCHC in the same Pc. My configuration is Mediaportal with last SAF version of September. When I open the file I get a black screen with lav codecs in video and audio (into video configuration). If I change the audio codec to Microsoft DTV I open the file but without sound.
In other Pc with MPHC with Combined Comunity Codec Pack I can open the file without problems. Can you see it? I think that I need a audio codec for it, but I dont know... I am not a advanced user.
