i've seen today a strange problem. I've two .mkv movies - both h.264 1080 and both DD 5.1 sound. One is playing nicely 10% CPU the other one causes 90-100% cpu with PDVD11 codec. MS DTV and ffdshow are refusing to play this file at all. Any ideas what to check?

VC-1 video? Can you split small sample in MKV merge and post it here?

I can play your sample without any problem here, but i dont have DXVA hardware here.

I tried to play that file on a system with DXVA hardware, without SAF, just with a regular MPC-HC installation and it refused to play.

Do you find any strange problems in it / with it? Does it play with ffdshow and MS DTV? For me both do nothing when i hit play in graphstudio.

Yes, it play just fine here using FFDshow video decoder.

OK i tested ffdshow DXVA not the one without DXVA ;-)

It plays with Cyberlink 10, ffdshow, ffdshow DxVA and DivX here...

Mhm i'm using Win7. Could you try Win 7? Have you looked at the CPU load while playing this file?

Sorry, no W7 available otherwise I would have tested with it in the first place.

Cyberlink 10: ~30% (DxVA is turned on, but seems not to be actually used)
ffdshow: ~30%
ffdshow DxVA: <10%
DivX: <10%
Arcsoft: <10%
Elecard: ~45% (trial expired )
CoreAVC: ~35-40%

CPU is an e6600 mildly overclocked from 2.4 to 2.85 GHz.
