Hi,

First time poster, to this forum.

I've loaded up MP and I'm very impressed with it. I currently have a Topfield PVR. If you're not familiar with this unit it's a PVR that 3rd party apps can be written for. My box is getting a little old, and I'm looking at alternatives to buying a new model. Naturally, I'm looking at HTPCs.

On my Topfield I use one particular app (MyStuff) which handles the scheduling of recordings. It does this very well by means of keyword. You basically enter a keyword and choose a whole bunch of options (i.e. channel/group, day, times, include +1 channels, search title/description, etc). So, for example, I can enter the keyword of "F1" for all days and all channels and I am safe in the knowledge that I'll get the qualifying and race recorded, even if they decide to put the race on BBC2 for some reason. Have a look at this screenshot to get some sort of idea. The other great thing with this functionality is that the keyword search is stored forever, so unlike series links once the next series come around (or F1 season) the program just gets scheduled automatically.

So far I haven't come across anything that works quite the same in MP. I know what you are thinking now, For the Record or TVWishList. Unfortunately, neither of them come close to what I am looking for. FTR is way too coplicated and runs as a separate program, and TVWishList doesn't even seem to work, as well as being hidden away in the configuration program. As far as I'm concerned this sort of functionality should be the cornerstone of any HTPC software.

I've trawled through changelogs and roadmaps but I'm unable to find mention of this kind of functionality being added to MP. Does anyone know if this is being planned?

Many thanks
George

Look at for the record. http:For The Record

It's a adjunct to MediaPortal and works with it. It's a bit fiddly to set up (and wants it's own database, separate from MP).

I keep meaning to [re]install it having upgraded to 1.1.0, just haven't got around to it.

To be honest I'm not sure if it has a separate TV playing system or if it fits in with MP properly.

The scheduling rulles are done on the PC screen - don't think it is done inside MP (shame) that makes it a bit cumbersome again.

Oh, for a nice simple interface....

    Thanks for the reply.

I did mention in my original post that I wasn't interested in For The Record as it is "...way too coplicated and runs as a separate program..."
