Sometimes I am willing to make screenshots from whatever is on tv. At this stage, the only way to do this is to use an external screen capture utility, like Screen Hunter 5.0 Free, which works very well for my needs. I did not try to use it with live tv, I used it with recorded tv only. It would be great to have a feature (a plug-in?) which allows the user to turn the feature on/off, play with the settings (typical settings for a screen capture software), all using MP menus. And of course, to be able to use the remote control for all the above and especially to trigger the capture. The button on the remote to trigger the capture should be able to be set through the "screenshot plugin" settings area. All features available using the remote only, no keyboard, will be fantastic. I have a wireless keyboard, but moving everything on the remote control will be a big improvement (tv in the lounge, pc behind the tv cabinet, couch is 5m away).

Currently F11 is taking screenshot. Don't think you are able to configure anything like location.
Not sure if it can be mapped to a remote button.

Maybe this will work for you while you wait for a volunteer to pick up on your full suggestion.

The problem with the screen shot is that it takes a picture of the screen, not the video. Who wants to take a picture of mediaportal itself, most screen shots would be of the video. This problem shows up mainly when pausing video to take the show,, the OSD just covers half the picture .

Screen shot tool is mainly for debugging / testing purposes, so yes we are interested especially with the MP GUI to be in the screen shot.

sometimes there is just something funny or interesting on tv and i would like to take a screen shot of it. IS there a way to add this? simply not draw the gui while a screen shot is been taken?

We could just dump the DirectX video texture to the disk to allow such feature. But not at least with 1.1.0 release (as it is not the main use case for a HTPC application). Anyone volunteer to provide a patch?
