    Hi
I am hoping that a codec expert may be able to tell me if this is possible.
I want .m2ts files to use the Sony MPEG2 Codec that came with the camcorder I have, while using the Cyberlink codec for all other MPEG2 content.
The Sony codec gives the best results on .m2ts files but is not as good for live TV where I prefer Cyberlink. (The NVIDIA PureCinema Codec actually looks best of the lot on 1080i or 720p but does not automatically switch modes between progressive and interlaced streams - an issue in Australia where digital free to air TV is broadcast in 1080i and 720p depending on the network).
Can this be done with merits somehow - I really don't know where to start.
    Cheers
    Rob

I think the simple answer is - no, it's not possible by changing merits.

    Are these HDV files ?

I play a lot of HDV content (1440 x 1080i MPEG2) from my Sony HC3 camcorder, but I normally convert (remux) the files to program stream format first - I find these behave better in MP than the original transport stream format files. I use the Cyberlink codec for everything MPEG2.

    Thanks Tony
Yeah I have a Sony HDR-SR7 which produces AVCHD 1440 x 1080i MPEG2 files which are the only files I have with a m2ts extension so I was wondering if I could somehow link that extension to a codec somehow, without changing other MP or codec settings.
I will try Windows 7 soon to see how the in built codecs handle the codec hell - it is the main source of frustration for me with a HTPC. Still the results are worth the effort but when friends ask if I could build them a HTPC box its a pretty firm no I reply with.
    Cheers

AVCHD is H.264 video compression (codec) format, carried in an MPEG transport stream, so it's the H.264 codec settings in MP which are relevant, not the MPEG2 codec settings - see AVCHD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So if you are using an H.264 codec and video card which support DXVA e.g. Cyberlink H.264 or MPC-HC then it's actually the video card hardware doing the decoding.....

Run MP in windowed mode and connect to the graph remotely with GraphStudio to check what's actually happening during playback.
