Several video-files refuse to play in MP (1 Viewer)

I have been trying for a couple of days to get my setup right.
I had a setup that was working except some problems with the subtitles. Since that installation was rather hacked up I did a fresh windows install and installed mediaportal 1.0, latest ffdshow, haali and vsfilter following Goose´s guide.
Now I have the subtitles working like I want and almost everything else, but there are several video files that refuse to play. When I click on them in mediaportal nothing happens, no errors or anything at all. The problem files are of several codec types and I was able to play all of them in my earlier mediaportal installation. I can play the movies outside mediaportal using windows media player so the codecs are correctly installed. I have tried everything that I can think of with no luck at all. It probably is a simple setting that I´m missing but I can´t figure it out.

Any suggestions??

I´m running on a Gigabyte GA-MA69GM mainboard with 2GB RAM and an AMD X2 5000+, no TV-cards installed

No, I opened one of the problem files and set a new filename and chose start muxing. It created a new file without errors but it would still not play. But very interesting program....

Forgot to mention that the problem files are both hi res .mkv files and low res .avi files

Must admit this was one of the things that used to bug me, it did not matter which codecs i had installed, i would still have a problem with the odd files, dont think it's so much the codecs, its the way they are configured to work with Windows directshow filters, that's why i now just use the Vista Codec Pack (it's just a name), it's preconfigured to be windows friendly, also makes sure the correct registry entries apply and since then, never had any problems playing any video file I own.

You may get more information from above, or run filmerit and see if you have any errors showing.

    Filmerit didn´t find any errors...

I was hoping that I could avoid resorting to codec packs, I really want to keep installed codecs to a minimum, but I think that I soon will have to give up on that...

I do not consider this as a codec pack as such, it is highly recommended on the MCE and msfn forums, the main codecs still used are FFDShow Tryouts, Haali, xvid, AC3 filter, but it does give you the choice of switching to the MPC-HC dxva codecs if your setup supports this.

I gave up and installed Vista Codec Pack 5.0.5. I first uninstalled all the codecs I could and then the vista codec pack and guess what, my problem files still refuses to play.... I feel that this probably is problem restricted to mediaportal , but I can´t figure out what it is....

Did you reboot, as VCP usually corrects any registry problem that may require this.

In FFDShow AUDIO settings\codecs, change MP1\MP2 to libavcodec, this enables a wider support of mpeg audio.

Hi, no, I must confess to not rebooting....

But, as I was quite mad on this I tryed with uninstalling and then reinstalling mediaportal. And then it worked... Until I set up mediaportal as I wanted it, then it stopped working again.
But this time I found out what it was: I had activated the DirectVobsubfilter(autoloading) under video/post procesing in mediaportal. After a bit of testing I found that if I instead used the non autoloading version of DirectVobsub everything seems to work.
Wonder how much time I have spent trying to fix this...

    Thanks alot for your help!!
