Show albums in coverflow and tracks as list (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I'm a MP user for around a year now, and have learned a lot of things about the software.. One of the things I still don't know is how to change the layout for the different music sections..

What I want:

When I enter the music section, I see all my albums in coferflow.. That's how I want it.. But when I enter a album, I see all tracks also in coverflow.. What I want is to show those tracks in listview..

What's the best way to configure this?

If you have not changed a thing then you are browsing in shares view which is very difficult to do this because to MP everything is just a folder and it does not know what is an artist folder, an album folder etc. In here you can set a default layout of coverflow then everything will be in coverflow then you would need to manually change every track page to list view.

Now assuming you have you music tagged correctly and are not already using the album view then you should use that. (Select change view from the menu).

If you look at Music Views 1.2 - MediaPortal Wiki (note you may need to switch the config tool to expert mode)

Here you will see that you have an album level, a disc# level and a track level each with a default layout. As it happens, the default for this view is coverflow for albums and list for tracks (and disc# is skipped if there is only one disc). So this should actually do what you want straight out the box.

I have tried to change the layout from files (like it was) to albums..

Then I see all albums in coverflow, and all tracks as a list.. So that's what I want.. The problem is with a lot of albums that MP is seeing every individual track as a album..

I thought, maybe the tags for those albums are incorrect.. Buth when I open the albums in windows explorer, all tags are added for album, and they are all the samed.

See the screenshots bellow.. (albums are now set on listview just for the screenshot)

Do you have any suggestions?

Check if the tags include the album artist. For sampler use "Various Artists" and then it should show as a single album.

MP shows the uniqeness of Album Name + Album Artist as one album (as many artists have an album named "Best Of").

In the tags, evey number has it's own artist.. So I have to change all those artists to "Various Artists" and it should be fine?

I will try that, but it's still a bit strange.. Because in that case you can't see wich artist is playing..

EDIT: I know what you mean! There is a difference between; "Artist" and "ambum artist" I have installed MPtag editor, and saw that the fields for albumartist where empty.. So I past in al those fields "Various Artists" and now everything is fine.. Thanks a lot!!

There is also a treat all tracks in a folder as an album (or something like that; on my phone now)

Which tries to do what you need but IMHO it is better to update the album artist tag to various artists
