    help with codecs

Hi, looking for some advice. I have just installed Showtimes on my main system but cannot get the trailers to play. I understand that I have to install specific codecs to get the .mov and .flv files to run.

I have most trailers running on another system that uses the SAF codecs, however on this system I want to keep my cyberlink powerDVD8 ultra BD codec as it provides by far the best TV picture quality and I do not want to compromise TV picture quality in order to get movie trailers.

So, I have installed quicktime and the medialooks DS filter - but I still cannot play MOV files. I do not see the direct filter from medialooks in the MP configuration. I'm sure I have missed something pretty fundamental.

Any advice would be great - I have read through many threads and am now completely confused... use SAF don't use SAF, use Haali, don't use Haali, use quicktime, don't use quick time.

What is the latest recommendation for showtimes that allows me to keep my current cyberlink codec for TV.

clanmackenzi: have you tried SAF? , i'm pretty sure that even though a previous installation of pdvd8 is not recommended, i think SAF may still work as long as you install SAF after PDVD. If not i suggest you start with a clean system, then install SAF, then use HDPACK2.3 to install standalone PDVD8 tv codec. Before installing SAF you should backup your system.

Kiwijunglist: Thanks for your reply - no I have not yet tried installing SAF on top of PowerDVD on this system. This was going to be my last resort, unless I was convinced that this was the best way to go. As well as the PDVD8 BD codec giving fantastic TV picture quality I use PowerDVD8 Ultra for blu-ray playback so I need it to be fully installed (not just codec) - unless there are alternatives to get blu-ray playback.

I was hoping this would be as simple as installing quicktime...

I did have trouble on my other system to get SAF working fully with a previous version of PDVD installed and my first recommendation was to un-install PDVD, install Haali and then SAF with its PDVD9 HD codec option - unfortunately the TV picture quality was not good enough... maybe this was not necessary though.

I have not heard about HDpack 2.3 - looks interesting though, need to read up more but this may provide some good alternatives.

    Thanks

    Hi Nephilim!

I've done a Polish translation for your plugin, check the attachment below:) Also what do you need to make the cinemas in Poland available in the future? I read some posts of this thread before and you asked for sites with Polish trailers so here they are:

    Onet.pl Film
    http://zwiastuny.filmweb.pl/
    Zwiastuny filmowe - Film - WP.PL
Zwiastuny - Film w INTERIA.PL - premiery filmowe, repertuar kin, recenzje filmów (kino, dvd)

Those four sites are the most popular and nearly all trailers have Polish subtitles there. Actually if there were trailers in the original language of the films, there wouldn't be a big deal since most of them are in English. A problem would appear if we had a premiere of a new Roberto Benigni's film which would be just in Italian:)

In Poland we have a popular cinema group called Cinema City and their multiplexes are in most of the big cities. Here's the site with the showtimes:

    http://www.cinema-city.pl/index.php?module=movie&action=repertoire
    And in English: http://www.cinema-city.pl/en/index.php?module=movie&action=repertoire

IMAX has reached Poland too:p http://www.kinoimax.pl/

The Google Movies service provides a great set of showtimes in Polish cinemas as well. If you don't know which cities to include, I can send you the list of the biggest ones or something like this.

    Best regards,
    chlodny

    hey there,

i installed show times as explained
    read the pdf file

configured it first and started to download manually befor the first start
it downloaded everything it takes, i guess

but when i switch to show times view in MP
i first see a list of all trailers available, but as soon as i browse through, MP crashes with the common windows expression

"caused an error and had to be closed" something like this

    any advice? :(

Thanks guys, up and running on all trailers - combination of some HDPACK components and FLVSplitter did the trick nicely.

Nephilim, still have description in French but I am happy to live with it as long as trailers are in English... definitely one of my favourite plugins.
