Hi guys,

i am currently looking for a "ultra" silent heatsink/cpu cooler for my AMD X2 4200+ EE.

I have the GD01 case, which leaves room for 140mm height of the heatsink on a mATX motherboard. I browsed the net and could not find the "ultimate" heatsink. My HTPC will be mainly used for (HD) movies, (HD) tv, and music.

What are the main criteria for heatsink selection given my needs and the 4200+ EE CPU?
Which cpu cooler would you recommend me? Here it is important to have a ultra silent cooler...

hope you can help me out.

regards,

Kian

Scythe Ninja Mini - absolutely wonderful

I run a 6000+ fanless with this heatsink (in a NSK2400 case with twin 120mm case fans) and my temps are abou 30c under load.

yeah, i read a lot about this combination, but as i have gd01 case this is not possible for me ;). the ninja mini WITH fan would be interesting if i know about the noise level.

I'm not sure why you can't use Ninja Mini for the GD01. I don't have the GD01 but I do use the Ninja Mini fanless with my Intel Core 2 Duo E6750. Well maybe it works because my case fan is near the CPU.

I've also tried Scythe Andy Samurai Master with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, fanless of course.

Both coolers are good to use in HTPC because of their fanless performance and the low profile that fit most HTPC cases.

oh sorry, i thought i read scythe ninja mugen, cuz the mugen is too tall. the mini however would fit. in the end i went for the arctic freezer which is around 30€ cheaper and as much as effective... i hardly hear the cpu fan and the temps are low (below 40°C)

    servus,

if you can change the cpu fan i would recommend a noctua fan. the nf-p12 also comes with an adaptor which allows the combination with a pwm fan control. and you can also put a 7 or 5v adaptor between the pwmadaptor and the fan.

if your motherboard has a proper fan adjustment then use it. cool n quiet also works great and really helps reducing heat and therefore noise.
