Hi all,

I apologise in advance if this seems too n00b, I'm about to install MP fresh tomorrow and I want to get it right :)

I've spent several hours trying to sort out how best to set up DVD playback in MP. Now from what I can understand I need to install FFDshow to sort out the upscaling of DVD's, but where I'm getting confused is which software to use to actually play the files. I notice in the MP setup Wiki there are DVD codecs that come bundled with MP, but everyone seems to be using different software.

I have a copy of PowerDVD 7, but I'm using an ASUS motherboard with ATI x1250 grpahics. Will this cause a conflict at all? And am I right in thinking I need something like PowerDVD to actually playback DVD's?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi!

Well actually this is quite easy:

If you have Power DVD you can use PDVD as you DVD playback codec (and also for the rest of your "movies"...)within Mediaportal.
You could also use FFdshow or the codecs that come with the Mediaportal installation.

You always need the correct codecs for your files installed on the system, usually MP will pick the right codec for the mediafile.
You just need to configure (inside MP) which codec to use for TV, DVD and Movies (can also be different)

I use PDVD also for HD content and I think this is one of the best codecs in the market so far.

Hope this helps to some extent....:)

    cheers

Ahh so PowerDVD and FFDshow do the same job essentially? I was under the impression that PowerDVD was used to actually playback the files and FFDshow did the codec work.

I might try FFDshow first as there seems to be a lot of good info on configuring it for MP.
