Summary: Faster way to skip ads (or just search certain point)

Area: TV, Videos

Description:

Current solution to skip ads takes too many key presses to find the end of ads. For example if ads lasts 4 min 50 sec and skip steps are configured: 10, 30, 60, 180 seconds.

+3 min (3:00) - 4 presses
+3 min (6:00) - 4 presses
-1 min (5:00) - 3 presses
-1 min (4:00) - 3 presses
+30 sec (4:30) - 2 presses
+30 sec (5:00) - 2 presses
-10 sec (4:50) - 1 press

19 presses in total.

Alternative method to skip ads is explained here: FastSkip 1.0, but idea is to first define biggest skip length with OK-button, then press right or left depending if you can still see ads or not. Skip length is halved in each jump when changing direction:

For example with same ad length and same steps: 10, 30, 60, 180 sec:

OK - 4 times, to get skip step 180 sec.
[key] [skip length] ([position])
right +3:00 (3:00)
right +3:00 (6:00)
left -1:30 (4:30)
right +0:45 (5:15)
left -0:23 (4:53)

That took 9 presses.

This is feature I truely miss from my Topfield PVR. :(

    Hi :)

Configure the BigStep (Up key) to 3 minutes and assume same skip-step-configuration as you mentioned.

    Then:
    Up (+3min) = 3min
    Right x3 (+1min) = 4min
    Right x2 (+30) = 4min30sec
    Right (+10) = 4min40sec
    Right (+10) = 4min50sec

    8 key presses

edit - oh yes, then there is comskip to remove all key-presses...

I doubt that Comskip works here in Finland, but you never know. I will try that.

That bigjump key would help a bit, but ads here can last anything from 2 minutes to 6 minutes. So I would skip +6min right away, so going 4:50 forward would go like this:

    1xup +3:00 = 3:00
    1xup +3:00 = 6:00
    3xleft -1:00 = 5:00
    3xleft -1:00 = 4:00
    2xright -0:30 = 4:30
    1xright -0:10 = 4:40
    1xright -0:10 = 4:50

12 presses + you have wait a bit between skips.

Yep, I know, I'm little bit impatient :)
