When I watch a video, I often want to skip to a certain part, perhaps past the intro and recap. In VLC, I can use Alt+Right arrow, which skips about 10 seconds for every tap on Right arrow. In MP, I found two options - to fast forward and to skip a predefined time (say, 5 minues), but are there anything similar to the VLC function?

click right (left) arrow several times to skip forward (back). Clicking right 4 times will e.g. skip 3 minutes ahead (default settings).
Arrow up (down) do an immediate skip step (I don't remember the size, since I never use it).

Reading your first post again, I see you were probably talking about the left right arrows to skip the defined sizes.
MP can also seek in a third way, you can type in the time to seek to by punching in 4 digits in format "hhmm" so typing 0124 will skip to absolute position 1 hour and 24 minutes into the movie.

For TV recordings a fourth way of seeking exists. If the recording/video has been processed by comskip the commercials can be skipped either automatically (setting in MP configuration), or manually by clicking next chapter on the remote.

I tried these methods, but none did what I wanted. To be clear: one click, step 10 seconds ahead. Two clicks, step 10 seconds, and step another 10 seconds ahead. Not 20 seconds or 1 minute directly.

I tried to disable all other steps than 10 seconds, but I still have to wait for a timeout before it performs the step.

The up/down arrow does much what I want, but the steps are way too big. If I can configure the size for this 'Big step', it would help a lot :)

Ooops - I found the solution right after posting this! My only defined step is now 10 seconds, and the timeout is set to 0. Holding the skip button on my remote works too - wonderful!
