Hi

i've tried using the search engine against the forums and also sent search against the wiki but not much luck.

I'm trying to find out how good MP supports Sky HD? At the moment I have a windows Media Centre and Dreambox solution (the DM supplies my Entitlments over the network to DVBSource) which works well. So, the questions are I guess:

- Will Mediaportal use the TVSource virtual tuners (2 of them at the moment, can it support 4?)
- Will Mediaportal allow me to access my subscription based HD channels?
- What are the limitations, if any?
- Are there any Mediaportal plugins that can make life easier/more fun with regards to Sky HD?

Thanks for your time!

I think MP kind of works with DVB logic but there are issues. Where are the tuners physically located? If on one machine you can simply install the tv server on that machine (then no need for virtual tuners). MP supports just about as many tuners as you can throw at it.

In theory yes (via MDAPI) but we can not talk about how on this forum.

You loose red button stuff, box office etc.

I've found this link which seems to indicate its a bit of a faff but do-able:

DVBLogic • View topic - Tool: use MediaPortal or DVBViewer with DVBLink

The dreambox decodes my entitlements - which i've paid for - and then sends these via TCP/IP to DVBSource. I think DVBSource sits on top of the real tuners, decodes my channels based on these entitlements and then creates two virtual tuners with the decoded data. So, the virtual tuners are on the same box as the real tuners.

Thanks for the link (Custom Data Grabber)... looks interesting.

I can understand (just about) why this may be a touchy issue for the mods but at the end of the day, i am paying for my channels.... its not like i want key/card share. I just don't want to use the crappy, flaky, limited Digi box's.

    Hi and welcome Stuza :)

Last I heard DVBLink virtual tuners are doing a few DVB-non-compliant things. They will probably work with MP 1.2.0, but I'm not going to guarantee ongoing function. If you ever speak to the DVBLink developers, please ask them to use proper DVB-compliant service types.

Thanks MM, i'll download and have a "try" tonight and reply back with the "score" tomorrow. Sounds as if it can be "tackled" if we all "maul" together ..... Shouldn't take more than 80 minutes or so.

(Sorry, couldn't resist! Yeah ok, Maul, Pull .... weak i know, sorry)

I am guessing it will still be in breach of the Sky T&Cs ;)

AIUI you can basically replace the Dreambox and DVB Logic with a card reader directly on the PC. You then basically install the same software as is running on the Dreambox on your PC. Then everything is all on the one box, entitlements should be updated etc.

Last time I check - and things could have changed, it was a while ago - there were no CAD/CAM modules that could read a Sky card for a PC. I believe Dragons could but that later changed and they could no longer do it.... maybe that was something to do with the change from Blue to White cards?

Could easily have changed though! Other issue if this is now possible is the small form factor of the case so it would have to be USB, if it can be done....

As I said, these is not the place for these discussions but I believe there are generic card readers without CAD/CAM that can be used.

Please by careful what is discussed here.

Then for the moment, i'll just try it with the current Dreambox setup.... and cross my fingers.
