SMS style input (#13) (1 Viewer)

I've seen al least a dozen posts asking how to use sms style input, which is perfectly normal and natural, as our main input device - remote - lacks alpha keys and using lame virtual keyboard is pain in the ass. I've seen that it is even listed on the command list as ACTION_TOGGLE_SMS_INPUT but even if i map it to key and press that key in virtual keyboard nothing happens - it stll punches numbers instead of letters.

I really can't understand why such a minor and basic things are always shrouded in mystery (every post on sms has never been answered properly and within every such a thread a few more people ask for the same thing. So, can this be done in 1.1 (with or without a plugin) and will it be included in 1.1 final? I hope this question is never asked again (at least with those who can use search function)

Since 50+ people read the message I assume some of them must be devs also. No answer, to me, means it is not possible and will not be possible in 1.1. Pity such a simple feature that could mean a lot to an avarage user is neglected.

Have a look at this work in progress skin. It's possible but maybe depends on the patches of ajp8164...

Sorry I was wrong - the skin has a skinable keyboard...

I have been looking everywhere for this too, manual/faq/etc.

The issues in the tracker about sms-keyboard markes it as 'resolved' but it just doesnt work. My remote is pushing numbers when I have the text-dialog up.
