I'm currently in the process of setting up MediaPortal after spending a couple of months trying to do with DVBLink and WMC or experimenting with Digital Devices drivers integration with WMC.
None of the solutions mentioned above ever managed to give me access to all my Sky Deutschland channels. As far as I can tell MediaPortal did managed that after a relatively painless setup.
I'm using the following DVB hardware:
I just set it up last night so only time will tell but I have to say I'm quite impressed with MP and all that for free. I can't believe I actually spent money on DVBLink.
One thing though DVBLink was able to tune in to channels much faster. So changing between channels was almost instantaneous whereas MediaPortal gives you a blank screen for a couple of seconds very much like my Sky receiver in fact. Are there ways to speed this up? Also MediaPortal start-up time is rather disappointing. WMC boots up much faster. Setting up MCE remote took some effort and I still have to get that iMON VFD working.
Still Team MediaPortal rocks! Congrats for such a great Open Source project. I'm looking forward to try it out further and possibly donate and contribute.
