[SOLVED] 0.2.0 install says newer version already installed (1 Viewer)

I am trying to update from an early version of MP to 0.2.0 final. I followed the wiki by renaming the existing mediaportal folder as a backup and then downloading the zip file for 0.2.0.

I unzipped the file in Team MediaPortal folder - it gives a setup file and a *.msi file. I ran the setup file - goes OK through the first couple of boxes. Then it says "Ready to install ...".

I click on the OK and it throws up the message "Can't install as there is already a newer version installed..." or words to that effect.

I checked under processes and there is nothing running that could be MP related. I rebooted and tried again - same error message. There is no other copy of MP running or available. I checked by trying to fire up MP and MP Setup from the old desktop icons - but they just complain there is no MP folder (which of course there isn't).

I have googled and searched here but can't find any references.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

RJ

Sorry guys - silly me

I have been using linux for too long (my MC is the only windows effort I have left).

The long and the short of it is I renamed my MP folder but didn't realise/forgot you have to do a complete uninstall. Did that and now the install was fine OH shame!!

    sure, you missed STEP 3

    1. rename your current MediaPortal folder to ?MediaPortalBackup. If you have problems with the new version you can go back to your old one by using the backup.
    2. download the latest release of MediaPortal here
    3. uninstall the old version of MediaPortal (note: no files in your MediaPortalBackup folder will be deleted)
    4. install latest version of MediaPortal

Just uninstall the old MP in add/remove.
How I back up, is to copy the Mediaportal folder to my documents, and then uninstall MP, and delete the MP folder under c/program files (which is rqd to remove all old settings and databases, which are not compatible).
Then install 0.2 with the 0.2.0.3 up, prior to configuring.

To restore an original working copy, just reinstall that version and copy your backup mediaportal folder over the top of the other one (remember if svn installed to run start.bat to reregister the files). and all your old settings will be restored.

    edit Already answered, Doh.

Sorry to waste your time guys. But, Ray, thanks for the tips re restoring an earlier version . Might need that yet (especially if I don't RTFM properly  )
