Hi Guys,

This issue just started today.

Every time I try to play a recording, new or old, it crashes straight away.

Same thing if I try to watch live TV.

Recordings are fine, and can be played on VLC with no issues, even recording from after the problem 1st occurred.

Also, Previewing a channel from TV-Server Configuration also causes that to crash.

Any ideas what the issue is, should I do a clean re-install?

I see another thread with similar issues following a Windows Update, but I am using LAV codec, so it doesn't look like the same issue for me.

Logs attached from trying to start playback of a recording.

    Hello Stephen

I see another thread with similar issues following a Windows Update, but I am using LAV codec, so it doesn't look like the same issue for me.
You're using LAV codecs for videos and Blu-Rays, but you've got no codec configuration whatsoever for TV or DVD... and that's why you're getting the crashes. Because you've got no config, MP is trying to auto-select/load appropriate codecs, and happens to try the Microsoft DTV-DVD codecs, which currently cause a crash.

It's exactly the same situation as described here:
1.16 Pre Rel. crashes after w10 update
1.16 Pre Rel. crashes after w10 update

Configure MP to use LAV for TV and DVDs and you should be fine.

    Hi,

That was the 1st thing I checked, and all Codecs are set to LAV

Sorry but the log files show that at the time you collected them, you didn't have TV codec settings.

The screenshot doesn't prove anything because as I said in the second linked post:
MP Config selects the LAV codecs as defaults the first time you view the settings... and that's why you saw what you saw. Prior to that, MP itself was not using the LAV codecs. Many people get confused by this.

Let me put it another way: if MP had been using the LAV codecs, why would there be log entries mentioning "MONOGRAM AAC Decoder" and "Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder"? Answer is, there wouldn't be.

I know it's confusing. If you're confused, you may just have to trust me.

In other words: you'll never see nothing selected even when there are no settings (because you have the LAV codecs installed).

Now that you have really configured TV codec settings, the problem should have gone away. Please confirm.

If you have ever programmed dropdown boxes...
I have... but in this case the contents of the dropdowns are simple strings (codec names), and so is the stored configuration. There's no reference involved.

Then I don't understand why the screenshot proves nothing.
The screenshot does not prove the existence of stored settings as Stephen claimed because MP Config will select the LAV options by default when there are no stored settings.

In other words, this is what I'm claiming happened:
    1. You had no stored settings => MP using Microsoft codecs => crash.
    2. You view the settings in MP Config. You see LAV options selected because those are the defaults, not because they were your actual settings.
    3. You fiddle with the settings. This step is irrelevant.
    4. You close MP config. Now the settings are saved, which solved the problem.
All I did to fix the crash in my system was to change and then change back the settings in Codecs and Renders.
I've been working on MediaPortal for more than 5 years now, so I'm fairly confident I'm right. I guess you either believe me or you don't.

In any case, I'm glad you've managed to resolve the problem.

ok - I read through both threads again, and I have selected and okayed the existing codecs.

It works now, so I am happy about that, but I think I might need to re-read the threads again to fully understand why I had LAV codec selected, but that somehow also I didn't have LAV codec selected o_O.

    :)
